Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick “Deeziel” Ewing

Derrick, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in San Diego,CA a few weeks off from being born in Belgium, raised in Nashville, TN. I have family in Georgia, so I’ve been coming here my whole life. I found a home in Atlanta in 2021 by way of a job I was working, which at the time was bought out, and allowed my to travel, and since my girlfriend at the time and myself were not working out, I felt it was a sign from GOD. My lil cuz “ChazzoBen” had been living in Georgia and was doing music, which I known he was, but when he found out I was done in Georgia he asked me to his manager, and I accepted. I didn’t know a thing about it, but I knew that I love my cousin and I had to look out for him. I’ve made a lot of mistakes on this road and also made some long lasting friendships and connections since I’ve started, as well as acquiring some great talented indie artists. I’ve been working with my friend and business partner “King 808 God” a mult-platinum producer here in Atlanta, who has worked with artists such as the late great “Shawty Lo”, Styles P, T.I, Too Short, the list goes on. We recently hosted @The Live Kulture Showcase” at Look Cinemas in Brookhaven, which was a complete success and will be premiering soon on Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Roku TV. I’ve had the opportunity to Executive Produce my 1st record “Real Good” with IAonthetrack and Jessica Redd which is available on all streaming platforms, 5 songs on the “24” Album produced by King 808 GOD. I’m currently building up Urthestar Records Inc. and branching off into other business ventures including film, merchandise, etc. As I’ve stated I manage a few artists under Urthestar Management : ChazzoBen, IAonthetrack, Jessica Redd, Payola Paid, Mixed Babii, GodisReign, Digital Bentley and I have a few more that I’m looking to add. Im also working with a new Black owned Tequila brand “Disbalef” with my partner Daeshon Davidson. Be sure to check it out in your local package store. Now you won’t find us everywhere in Georgia but we are making “believers” out there lol, feel free to get in touch with me for your own personal bottle if your having problems finding it. This is only the beginning, I’m very excited about the things going on right now, and as well as what the future holds for me. The sky isn’t the limit, and I’m ready for everything GOD has for me

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not lol. You meet a lot of people in this industry, and being new to the game and to the city, I had to learn the DJs, the Clubs, the promoters, you also meet new artists trying to “get on”. And everybody wants something, there’s alot of scamming going on, and most of the time, the artists ends up suffering without knowledge of the business, so in the beginning Chazzo and I did a lot of traveling, going to showcases where he didn’t get to perform, paying DJs at different clubs 3, 4 times a week to spin his records, trying to build “genuine” connections with these guys, doing showcases for various Clubs in Atlanta experiencing how that goes, and it’s frustrating when you really on the side of your artists and there are “roadblocks” in the way of where you’re going. So we breaking them down now, and creating a more beneficial lane for the artists, DJs, producers etc

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I believe there is nothing I can’t achieve with Christ by my side. I’ve always hustled, worked, scratched and scraped to get paid. I’ve worked several places during my experience on this Earth and one thing I’ve learned is that, every place I’ve been employed at gave me the skills to be their competitor ain’t the right stage I’m my life. I use the same skills I learned on the street and apply it to the job and use the skills I learned at the job and apply it to my own business enterprise. People can work at places for 5, 10, 20 years doing the same thing, the logistics of the job, damn near running it and won’t open their own. I’m not knocking them because I am them too lol I just had an epiphany one day. People in Atlanta know me for managing ChazzoBen 1st, and the promoting venues and hosting events. My heart, compassion and love I have for others makes me different in this game, also how I can see something in a person. I’ll give you a chance, I’ll go to war for you, if I see that you’re trying and giving it everything you got because that’s what it takes to succeed out here. I try not to be a prideful person, but I’m most happy about my team that myself, as well as Chazzo, my partner Jabari Fareed and King 808 God has had a part in making continue to grow.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe in The Most High GOD, I never really gave luck any credit
