Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorris Rogers. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I am Dorris rogers better known as Lildee. I got started with makeup at the age of twelve years old. My family have always been into fashion and beauty. It fascinated me to see the ladies in my family apply these beautiful colors to their faces and lips. I started to practice on myself and before you know it, I was doing makeup for friends and family as well. I went through a very traumatic experience in 2017 when I loss my mother. This tragic event put me in a bad place, but when I did makeup that made me feel so much better. In 2019 I called it quits to a hospital that I worked at for 16 years to pursue my passion in makeup. Makeup took away depression and pain. I was always told do what makes you happy, follow your passion. I worked consistently for two years before people caught on to my makeup brand Beautywithlildee. I remember one whole year not getting booked, but I kept going because this is my passion. Three years later, I am still here with the most clientele I could ever imagine. I now travel from state to state and have an in-home makeup studio that accommodate my clients each day. It was hard, but I feel like when you are doing something you love, it truly isn’t work. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle that I overcame is not receiving the support that I thought I would get. The first year of me starting my makeup business, no one booked me. I had others that would share my work or spread the word, but no one was booking Beautywithlildee. I finally told myself, if you have enough faith to leave that hospital and pursue your dreams, you have the faith of a mustard seed to become one of the biggest makeup artist in your area. My second year, I was booked by a celebrity that came to my area. I kept researching makeup and focusing on my passion. Before I knew it my clients grew and my name was in rooms, I never been in. This kept me grounded. I told myself from here on out, I will always work hard for me and never compete with a soul because my work will always speak volumes for itself. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional travel makeup artist. I specialize in everyday makeup, theater makeup, and body paint. I am known as a natural makeup artist. The girls call me the naturalist because when I apply the makeup it looks skin-like, and my eyeshadows are blended to wear you can’t tell where it starts and stop. I am most proud that during times like these, my makeup business is still growing every day and flourishing. What sets me apart from other artist is that I am available. Beautywithlildee is my full-time job, so I am convenient for all the working women. I also speak positive words and encourage each client. I make sure they leave my chair better than when they walked in. 

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I love to read my favorite Author Marry Monroe books. I like to study the book by Robert Kiyosaki, rich dad poor dad. Also, I have been following voyage stories and picture myself on this same magazine one day. The stories are so encouraging and motivating. I also listen to Eric Thomas, motivational speaker.
