Today we’d like to introduce you to Dre Marquis.
Hi Dre, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Lived my entire life there until college. That’s where the acting journey took off for me. I wasn’t always interested in acting. I wanted to be a marine biologist for the longest. I love everything about marine life. It’s so odd down there. Lol. And then a guy came to my high school one day and told me I should get into the entertainment industry. I thought he was just trying to recruit me for the school. Well to his surprise….it worked. I did attend Alabama State University and received my BA in Theatre. Then I went back home right after that for grad school at DePaul University. Three years later, boom, I’m here. Left everything behind, moved to Atlanta and loving every minute of the experiences and growth this year here has shown me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is any road ever smooth? Seriously? I do believe that I have had LEARNING LESSONS. I’m blessed. I have overcome obstacles that have manifested. Some smaller and larger than others, but I learned what will help me become better. The only thing I find most challenging is getting out of my own way sometimes. There’s so much potential in me, in you. And we have to move ourselves aside to see the greatness. I work on that consistently. It’s important for this craft and for life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an Artist. I am signed to Hayes Talent Agency and 831 Entertainment. They have been nothing less than supportive through this journey. I’ve done countless theatre productions in Chicago and have been on stages such as the Chicago Theatre and Red Theatre. I’ve had co-star and guest star roles on shows such as Chicago PD, Chicago Fire and 61st Street. All of these I have been extremely proud of. Now I am in Atlanta looking to expound on the work I did there. I have taught students and coached actors. I also am a writer, dancer, and content creator. I’m always finding something new I like to do so this list is still loading.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
At this point, I’m not too sure. The pandemic and COVID-19 has shook it to its core. I know for a fact that more voices are being heard. I know in this day, right now, there are several individuals fighting to be heard. One thing I hope is that the industry will come to a point when they will understand more family values outside of the job. Hopefully, there will be less hours to work for crew, quicker turnaround times, and more coming together! These are only my thoughts and from my perspective, but I will sit back and continue to see the joy that is to come for everyone working in this field.
