Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth “Buffy” Ferguson.
Hi Elizabeth “Buffy”, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m the founder of Elizabeth Ferguson Design and have spent the past two decades immersed in residential and commercial interior design. I attended both the University of Georgia for Fashion Merchandising and Auburn University for Textile Design. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to more than a hundred design projects.
My business began with an opportunity to help a dear friend with his home. He was nearing the final stages of a major renovation, with his wedding and honeymoon just around the corner. I was brought on to complete the project – managing subcontractors, overseeing the installation of furnishings and artwork. I styled their decor and found a place for all their personal belongings from the previous home. By the time they returned from their honeymoon, their new home was fully move-in ready—a true turnkey experience.
Shortly after, I was recommended by another friend to serve as the point of contact for all villa owners participating in the Callaway Gardens rental program. My role involved managing renovations, furnishing homes, and ensuring each property was beautifully finished and guest-ready. This marked the official beginning of Elizabeth Ferguson Design in 2007.
As my children grew older and I had more time to focus on my career, I devoted myself fully to design. In 2014, I completed my first major new-build turnkey project. I invested in professional photography for the space, and that decision proved invaluable, as it led to the project being featured in Better Homes & Gardens and Atlanta Home—a proud milestone for my business.
Several years ago, I moved back to Newnan, Georgia where I was raised and continue to be inspired by the beautiful community there.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the interior design industry, resilience is a daily necessity. This business is full of ebbs and flows, and success requires the ability to adapt, evolve, and remain steadfast in the face of challenges. Resilience means continually driving the business forward year after year, whether that’s refining systems and processes to improve efficiency or finding new ways to deliver an exceptional client experience. We are also committed to pushing boundaries to ensure our clients receive designs that are not only beautiful but also functional and forward-thinking.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My approach is all about creating spaces that reflect my clients’ personalities and lifestyles. I take pride in being hands-on and thoughtful, ensuring every project aligns with their distinct needs while showcasing elevated design sensibility. Whether it’s luxury residential or commercial spaces, I’ve enjoyed bringing my vision to life across the Southeast and beyond.
At the core of my creative journey is a deep passion for crafting environments that embody pointed elegance, refined sensibility, and genuine, lived-in comfort. My spaces are more than just visually appealing—they’re intentionally inviting, blending clean lines, eclectic details, and unexpected elements to create a distinct edge.
What drives me in every project is the transformation of a space into an authentic environment. I strive to create a retreat filled with warmth and personality that inspires connection and captures the beauty of everyday moments. One of my most rewarding roles was serving as the designer for the West Point Downtown Development Authority, where I had the opportunity to help reshape the landscape of West Point.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I enjoy a wide and eclectic range of art, and love to stay up to date with contemporary culture. My taste also influences my love of music, which is always playing in the background of my life as well as the Elizabeth Ferguson Design studio.
