Life & Work with Gabriel Montesinos Corzo of South Moccasin GA/TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Montesinos Corzo

Hi Gabriel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born outside the States in Peru, South America. However, I’ve grown up in Chattanooga, TN basically all my life. I was extremely active in futbol (soccer) & volunteering growing up. In fact, UnitedWay of Greater Chattanooga awarded me as the Youth Volunteer of the year in 2013 for my contributions in Community Outreach & Keynote Speaking Events at Churches & Schools surrounding East Tennessee. It wouldn’t be until 2020 that’d I’d have an interest in activism & for public works.

Since then, creating music, art, & an atmosphere for the freedom to be celebrated is where the story continues to unfold.

Actually, working with artists around the neighborhood is not as complicated as it seems. The best events or shows tend to be sessions that never reach the record button. The most riveting & elusive ideas truly defy the conversations we, as a community, have. Which makes sense as to why the sounds & rage coming from the South sounds more familiar to punk-vile angst.

Looking ahead this year, being able to connect with artists from the South, the Mid-West, & sometimes around the world, is the most humbling experience. It has also created a great opportunity to see the class of creatives looking to start their journey to the road to wavy guitars & riches & I couldn’t be more grateful for it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road with all the messy hair in the way. And honestly, it hasn’t always been the prettiest road. From dropping song after song until you’re literally restrained from being a free productive member of society. It can create a very testy year & even testier world.

Having to have to fight a personal grudge in the court system for your innocence is one thing but on top of that, to put up the same fight up against 9 different inmates in Hamilton County’ Jail General Population is a whole story of its own.

One thing for sure, it’s not as creative or impressive as upholding the constitution at protests & peaceful demonstrations like it was during the 2020 Lockdowns here at home.

You could thank my opposition for that.

This recent experience might be the last time I see red & blue as a matching pair to shrug off though. At least here on the East side. Seeing that combination under the roaring sun out West, might just be the news that makes it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist. I, create, & express what others see as a story that lacked context. Well, by separating my time & an ambitious work routine, I let the art from my soul grow in the guise of expression through music, design, & honest graphic representation.
Because of my works, I’ve managed to be featured in Magazines, Movies, TV, & Music. Entertainment as a whole has become the loyal expression of what some might resonate with as a sensational piece in a Hollywood Production.

Being Drake’s Ghost Writer was fun, but someone let him know I won’t make it next summer, I’ll be in MIA… God willing.

For now being the best VLXLYIIE is the how music makes my world go around & ‘round.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck is not something I run into often. If ever, it’s been bad luck or what some might call a charm. A lot of blessings though. Blessings that have lifted mountains off my shoulders & brought my friends & family to greener grass & waters sweet as rain.
