Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Florian.
Hi Jessica , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out modeling when my friend, David Booker, photographer, asked to take my picture. He became a mentor to me. And, I became his muse. I was going through a depression at the time and he helped give me the confidence and perseverance that I needed. We both depended on God, which was great and a real turning point in my life. He shot my complete portfolio and schooled me in the modeling industry. I would know what to look out for and what to expect on modeling go sees. He helped to shape me in the beginning of my modeling career.
I’ve modeled for many amazing photographers after that as well. One of them is Timeless Image Photography. We did studio and on location photo shoots; showing an array of styles from fashion, pinup, commercial photography, fitness, and more.
I’ve been blessed with modeling for for the following brands and clients: Daniel’s leather, 7vckit clothing, Donna Allen clothing, Clairol, Harley Davidson, Killer Kurves Shapewear, B&H Photo, New York Fashion Week, The Trentonian newspaper Page 6 model feature, Kohesion clothing, Grit elite fitness, Dry Bar hair salon, Shapes N sexy shapewear, Fitness Core shop, American Photo Model magazine. Steppin out magazine, Flava girl magazine, Blaze magazine, Envyd magazine, and Inspir3 radio magazine.
Some magazine covers include: Lux 7 magazine, Max boudoir magazine, Style muse magazine, Feather magazine, Mirror magazine, and Dappy magazine.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles along the way were in the beginning of my career, learning what genre of modeling was for me. From my dancing background, I’ve always had a curvy body, which can be a challenge for fashion. So, I was doing a lot of bikini and lingerie photo shoots. And, my dream was to do more of fashion, which I did get a chance to do extensively when I walked numerous runways shows for New York Fashion Week.
You have to be a strong person in this industry because you are always being evaluated and sized up. I wish I was stronger in the beginning. But, now I’ve mastered that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an internationally multi published model and a published makeup artist. Also, I am a former Mac Cosmetics artist. Currently, I am doing work as an affiliate for: beauty, fashion, and wellness brands.
I am most proud of my work ethic. What sets me apart is I am extremely passionate and down to earth with everything I do.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I listen to various podcasts. But, mostly I learn from my personal experience and contacts.
