Today we’d like to introduce you to Liv Bailey.
Liv, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since growing up, I knew I wanted to do something within the art field, but I didn’t start to take it seriously until high school. I would take every class possible I could for art to see what area of the industry I would fall into. I jumped around a lot and even thought I would go into visual effects at one point. It wasn’t until I found out more about the publication illustration route here at SCAD that I found my niche work that I enjoyed. I learned more about the world of publication, especially editorial and advertising, and feel like my passion for art and my career have really flourished.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Coming into college at the height of COVID, made it difficult to meet people in the industry but once I found out more about myself and put myself out there, I was able to find people who were similar and bring the best out of me. Of course, personal life gets in the way, and there have been events that have changed how I see myself and others a lot, but the people who have been there for me have brought the best out of me and have become such a good support system. They inspire me to keep going and to keep creating art.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is primarily in the realm of publication! I focus on editorial and advertising! I like to focus on mental wellness, and mindfulness publications as well as music posters! My work is heavily inspired by other artists within the field as well as art movements like art nouveau, arts and crafts movement Etc. My proudest moment, I’d say would be being able to meet and interview the art director of NPR! and she loved it so much that it’s now on her website! I’d say what sets me apart from others is my approach to my style which others have described as elegant, graphic, and feminine.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Whenever I can I try to go to as many art museums as possible! Both old and contemporary. Here I’m able to find artists that I would have never known before and overall get inspired by all the different kinds of work that’s out there that if I didn’t explore I would have never known.
