Life & Work with Michael Kelly of Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Kelly.

Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Michael Kelly, a fashion designer with over 20 years of experience in the industry and 15 years dedicated to designing. My journey began in Pontiac, Michigan, before moving to Chicago, where I honed my craft. Over the years, I’ve been involved in a variety of creative roles, including photoshoots, short films, and production teams across cities like Detroit, Chicago, New York, and Atlanta.
In the past year, I’ve taken a more hands-on approach, producing and writing my own fashion shows, photoshoots, and commercials for my projects, continuing to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation in the fashion world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve spent 25 years in the fashion industry, and over time I’ve evolved my design perspective to keep it fresh and engaging. I transitioned from women’s wear into men’s wear, and now I’m focused on building connections that place my work in new spaces and the right rooms.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I design both men’s and women’s wear, with a growing focus on menswear. My work blends anime-inspired creativity with fashion, allowing me to create distinctive, story-driven looks. I’m known for pushing boundaries through innovative design, crafting garments that stand out while still being wearable and expressive.

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, is staying consistent in your talent and always moving forward. Even when one door closes, multiple new opportunities will open.
