Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Lott.
Hi Mona, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey really began in 2017 when I competed in the Miss HSL pageant through the Hotlanta Softball League. That experience introduced me to a whole new world of entertainment, community, and self-expression. From there, I worked hard to grow my craft as a performer, host, producer, and personality within the LGBTQ+ community.
Over the years, I’ve focused on building genuine relationships, creating spaces where people feel welcomed, and becoming someone who brings people together. Being naturally social and community-oriented has opened so many doors for me from producing drag events and festivals to podcasting, fundraising, and collaborating with incredible organizations and entertainers throughout Georgia.
A huge part of my success has come from simply being authentic. I’ve learned that people connect most when you lead with sincerity, passion, and a willingness to support others while continuing to evolve yourself creatively.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think anything truly worth pursuing comes with a smooth road. Along the way, I’ve learned a lot through both positive and difficult experiences. There have been moments where I’ve had to separate myself from friendships or creative relationships that no longer aligned with me, deal with drama within the community, and navigate the pressures that can come with being in entertainment and leadership roles.
Honestly, I try to view every challenge as an opportunity for growth. Each experience has taught me something valuable about boundaries, resilience, professionalism, and the importance of surrounding yourself with genuine people. Those lessons have helped shape not only the entertainer I am today, but the person I am outside of drag as well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I wear a lot of hats, which is something I’m incredibly proud of. Most people know me as Mona Lott, but beyond performing, I produce events, host shows, help with marketing and branding, create concepts, and work heavily within community organizing and nonprofit work. I’m the founder of Equality Fest in Gainesville, Georgia, and through both my entertainment work and community efforts, I’ve always tried to create spaces where people feel seen, celebrated, and connected.
I specialize in building experiences that feel immersive, welcoming, and memorable. Whether it’s a drag brunch, large-scale festival, competition, fundraiser, or live podcast, I love creating environments where people can escape, have fun, and genuinely connect with each other. I’m also known for being highly involved in every aspect of production from creative direction and hosting to social media strategy and behind-the-scenes logistics.
What I’m most proud of is the community that has formed around the work I do. Seeing people feel inspired, accepted, or even just able to laugh and enjoy themselves means everything to me. I’m especially proud of helping bring more LGBTQ+ visibility and events to areas outside of Atlanta, particularly in Hall County and surrounding communities.
I think what sets me apart is my authenticity and my ability to bring people together. I’ve never wanted to just be a performer on a stage, I want people to feel like they’re part of something bigger. I lead with personality, passion, and genuine connection, and I think audiences and collaborators can truly feel that.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Atlanta is the diversity and creativity of the city. Atlanta has such a unique energy because there are so many different cultures, communities, and artistic spaces all blending together. It’s a city where people can truly express themselves, and that’s something I’ve always connected with both personally and professionally. The LGBTQ+ community here is incredibly vibrant, and there’s a strong sense of support among entertainers, creatives, small businesses, and community leaders. There’s always something happening, and the city constantly inspires you to think bigger and evolve creatively.
What I like least is probably how fast-paced and overwhelming the city can sometimes feel. Atlanta is growing rapidly, which brings amazing opportunities, but it also comes with challenges like traffic, rising costs, and certain communities or local creatives struggling to keep up with that growth. At times, the entertainment scene can also feel very competitive or cliquey. But overall, I think the positives far outweigh the negatives, and Atlanta’s energy, resilience, and sense of individuality are what continue to make it such a special place to me.
