Life & Work with Nickita Thakkar of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nickita Thakkar.

Hi Nickita , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in the beauty industry started in India, later took me to Dubai for ten years, and eventually brought me to Atlanta. Over the years, I’ve learned that hair is so much more than beauty — it’s confidence, self-expression, and how someone feels when they see themselves.

Working with people from different cultures and backgrounds shaped not only my skills as a stylist, but also the way I connect with clients. I’ve always wanted my space to feel personal, calming, and welcoming — somewhere people can relax, feel heard, and leave feeling more like themselves.

Today, through The Hair Lounge by Nickita, I specialize in color, balayage, cuts, treatments, and creating looks that feel effortless and natural to each person. What inspires me most is seeing someone light up after a transformation, especially when they feel beautiful in a way that still feels authentic to them.

Outside of hair, I’m also deeply drawn to creativity, mindfulness, art, and personal growth. Painting and self-discovery have helped me see beauty differently — not just as appearance, but as energy, confidence, individuality, and emotion.

I feel grateful that my career has allowed me to connect with people in such a personal way, and I’m excited to continue growing, creating, and evolving both professionally and personally.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape me both personally and professionally. Moving from India to Dubai and later to Atlanta meant constantly adapting to new environments, cultures, and ways of working. I had to learn, unlearn, and relearn many things along the way — not only in my career, but also within myself.

Like many people in the beauty industry, there were moments of uncertainty, self-doubt, and learning how to balance creativity with the business side of things. Building something of your own also comes with responsibility and pressure, especially when you genuinely care about the experience you create for people.

At the same time, those experiences helped me grow. They taught me patience, trust in myself, and the importance of staying connected to what truly inspires me. I’ve learned that growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone and continuing forward even when things feel uncertain.

Today, I appreciate the journey because it helped me become more grounded, creative, and intentional in the way I work and connect with others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hairstylist and the owner of The Hair Lounge by Nickita, where I specialize in color, balayage, haircuts, treatments, and creating personalized looks that enhance each person’s natural beauty rather than overpower it. My approach has always been about making people feel confident, comfortable, and truly seen.

What I’m most proud of is the connection and trust I’ve built with my clients over the years. Many of them have been with me through different stages of life, and that means a lot to me. I love creating an experience that feels calming, welcoming, and personal — not rushed or transactional. I want people to leave not only loving their hair, but feeling lighter, refreshed, and more themselves.

I think what sets me apart is that I see beauty as more than just appearance. My work is deeply connected to emotion, individuality, and energy. I take time to understand the person sitting in my chair — their lifestyle, personality, and how they want to feel. My experiences living and working in different parts of the world have also shaped the way I connect with people from many backgrounds.

Outside of hair, I’m also passionate about creativity, art, mindfulness, and personal growth, and I believe those influences naturally flow into the atmosphere and experience I create for my clients.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to stay patient with your growth and stay close to your craft. In the beginning, it’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel like you need to “arrive” quickly, but real confidence comes from consistency and repetition over time.

Looking back, what I realized is that it’s okay not to know everything at once. You learn so much by doing, observing, making mistakes, and adjusting. I had to learn, unlearn, and relearn many times — and that process never really stops.

Another important thing is to protect your energy and stay connected to why you started. This industry can be fast-paced and sometimes overwhelming, but if your intention is strong, it will guide you through.

Also, don’t underestimate the value of building real relationships. Skills matter, but so does how people feel around you. The way you listen, communicate, and care will set you apart just as much as your technical work.

Most importantly, stay open. Growth doesn’t come in a straight line, and every stage teaches you something you’ll need later.
