Life & Work with Taniah Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taniah Scott.

Hi Taniah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Taniah Scott. I’m 21 and a Licensed Aesthetician. I’ve always had an interest in skincare and beauty. In middle school that interest became more intriguing as I was able to experiment a little more with daily facial routines and products. As time got closer to me graduating high school I didn’t know what type of career I wanted, but I knew my passion was skin care. One day my mom suggested I go check out a local esthetic school. I finally decided to check it out and my mom made the arrangements for us to do a walk-through and met a few instructors to see what the field was about. I immediately knew this was something I genuinely wanted to do. I enrolled in the program that same day and I graduated from esthetic school a year later. My first job was at a waxing studio. During my time there, I knew I wanted to do more than just waxing. I wanted to actually help people with their skin concerns and needs. I decided to enhance my learning by taking different advanced courses and eventually I decided that I wanted to specialize in corrective skin care of the face and body. This allowed me the opportunity to take on a second part-time job at a facial/massage franchise where I gained most of my experience. Now I’m located inside a studio where I am specializing in corrective skin care with all skin types and other services as well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely not a smooth road in this field. When you graduate and begin to apply for jobs, sometimes you can expect to hear the words “Unfortunately, I’m looking for someone with at least 2 plus years of experience”. I received more no’s than yes’. One day that no turned into a yes and I was given the opportunity to begin my journey. My biggest challenge was getting clientele and trying to “perfect” my skill, but I’ve learned that perfection is impossible. However, I can always strive to become better and better. Throughout these few years as an aesthetician, I’ve learned that the key is to find your niche, and what works best for you and your clientele. Once that is established, your clientele will find you. My parents always tell me “let your work speak for itself”. You have to just take that leap of faith when it comes to building your brand. You’re going to experience a few bumpy roads, but overall when you’re doing something you love it’s not a job-it’s a perk!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in corrective skincare on the face and body. I offer advanced facials, chemical peels, waxing, sugaring, vajacials and body treatment services. I love what I do and treat every service like it’s the very first time. I listen to my client’s skin concerns and work with them to find a solution. I am most proud of being able to provide people with an overall great experience when they come to get serviced by me!
