Life & Work with Tanya Miller of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Miller.

Hi Tanya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a mother, Georgia State Representative, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and a distinguished trial attorney with more than two decades of courtroom experience. Raised by my mother, a proud union worker, I learned resilience, hard work and perseverance early in life — starting with a paper route at the age of nine, working my way through school and later balancing jobs and motherhood on my path to becoming a lawyer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up the daughter of a single working mother, we experienced the instability, as many of us do, that comes from being one paycheck away from disaster. For me, school was always a place of stability in my life. My mother instilled the importance of education.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, I have remained fiercely committed to justice, fairness and integrity. I’ve fought for victims, defended constitutional rights and represented working families in wrongful death, personal injury, criminal defense and civil rights cases — including police misconduct under Section 1983.

During my career in public service, I’ve worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in New York, a Fulton County prosecutor handling homicides and crimes against women and children, and now as a Georgia legislator where I was elected Democratic Caucus Chair in 2024. As a lawmaker, I’ve led the fight at the Georgia State Capitol to lower housing costs, expand access to affordable healthcare, and protect working families from the powerful special interests rigging the system. Today, I continue my work to champion workers’ rights as General Counsel to the Georgia Federation of Public Service Employees.

I am the founder of Miller Injury Trial Law and a a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and School of Law.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Stay focused and always keep working.
