Today we’d like to introduce you to William Ellis.
Hi William, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been creating children’s Toyboxes and Chairs for over 18 amazing years I have always had a passion for creating works of art out of wood, it gives me such joy to see children receive one of my handcrafted Toyboxes or chairs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The only challenge has been trying to find a Maker place to work out of since I now live in an apartment .
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create handcrafted kids toyboxes and chairs , I work out of a shared maker space in Decatur Georgia it’s wonderful to be around other woodworkers and artist we often collaborate on projects. I am especially proud of my handcrafted Butterfly and Giraffe Chairs. In these days of mass production I think people perfer handcrafted designs, I like to think my Chairs and toyboxes will become family heirlooms.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Getting to hangout in the workshop with my dad he was a tv repairman and from him I got my love for electronics as a hobby.
