Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Kloster.
Allison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband and I have always enjoyed real estate, whether it was walking through new construction or looking at resale homes. It was only natural for me to go into Real Estate as a career. I started off with a bang and have been blessed to have never had a slow year, but it is what I am passionate about. I am sure that passion is what drives me. Every day I get to work with new acquaintances, old friends or neighbors, family members and colleagues that I respect so much. I get up and know that I am excited to go to “work”. The statement that says choose something you love doing and you will never work a day in your life is so very true. I have formed some tremendous friendships along the way and am so happy they chose to keep me in their life after closing. I have been selling real estate for over 20 years, and it feels like yesterday that I had my first closing – 1300 homes later, and I still love it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Certainly, the market during the 2008-2012 time frame was tough. We had to navigate our client’s losses and think strategically how to protect their largest asset and their family’s financial future. We had to learn how to sell foreclosures and short sales and how to hunt for the best deal for our client. We wore many hats during those years, but working through those years proved to be most helpful in stronger markets. We focus so much on how to make our client’s money work while they are sleeping. We have to help our clients find a house that they can make a home, and the market will reward them when they go to sell their home. We look for the challenges a property has first to see why a client should not buy it and if it passes our muster, then we hope they are excited about it as well. The learning process for our clients is a priority to us. We want our clients to make the best decision within their budget without sacrificing too many parts of their criteria along the way. This will keep them in a good selling position whenever the time comes or the market dictates.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Kloster Group at HOME Real Estate?
We believe in a team approach. Each and every member of our team is important. We strive to make sure we are constantly in the know of market conditions, current trends in home styling and renovation/upgrades, coming soon listings, off-market properties, and distressed properties if appropriate. We stay IN the field. We are constantly going into new neighborhoods and old to keep us fresh on what each neighborhood offers in terms of floor plans, backyards and general upkeep of the homes in there. Any one of us is available for you. You will not want for service – we do believe in full service and make it our mission to create that for our clients throughout the buying/selling process. We all have grown up here and /or been here for over 45 years. We know every nook and cranny of our market area.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Realtors and all people who work in this industry were deemed essential. We did not shut down during COVID. We rose to the occasion. We learned to Facetime folks through homes; we zoomed with sellers to teach them how to get a home ready for market, we used our cell phone’s hands-free speakers as tour guides while folks followed behind us instead of riding inside the car, we learned to use social media for the benefit of our clients in looking for quiet listings, off-market properties or coming soon homes. We learned that Realtors could not let our clients down – we had to figure out how to put a roof over their heads. Creative thinking became the new normal as far as how to show a home to someone remotely. We used our resources more than ever to help our clients choose vendors for all parts of the transaction. Those relationships carried us all through the frustration of trying to live and work in a world we did not know.
