Meet Alycia Wright of Richmond, virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alycia Wright.

Hi Alycia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Created in 2016, Black homeschoolers needed a community where we could tap into our natural ways of being (language, clothing, hair, food, music, dance, history, kwanzaa principles, education, mothering, community). We often were the only Black faces when looking at homeschool coop spaces for our children. A group of 12 women came together under the leadership of Alycia Wright and formed Cultural Roots Homeschool Cooperative

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges. We are not a drop off site. We value parent participation even though we hire teachers. The obstacle is that we often have families who lack the capacity to be onsite to support the coop. We would love a way to be able to include those families while still finding ways for them to actively participate.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
