Meet Amber Palmer of ANP Photography in Buford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Palmer.

Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved taking pictures. These are your memories forever. I started by getting a camera and taking pictures of my own child. I began to love it and friends started asking me to take pictures of them as well. After son number 2 was born, I began to take lessons from a local photographer and my business took off. I was second shooting for weddings and building my portfolio as well as doing so much kid photography on the side. Children photography is really my passion. I always seem to get the best smiles.

After about three years of doing awesome, I went through a family hardship and photography had to take a backseat. I lost so many clients due to not being able to do it anymore. I hated not having that as my full-time hobby and job. In 2015 I met my now-husband, who is so supportive of this and kept encouraging me to get it back up and running. I am so happy. I love photography and keep coming up with creative ideas to do. This past holiday season I did 75 family shoots in about four weekends.

I am doing a ton of fresh 48 hospital sessions (which are my FAVORITE). I am getting busier and busier each day and I keep my pricing super affordable. I have old clients back and so many new ones as well. I have four beautiful children as well, who are awesome little models for all of my ideas. This is my passion and calling and I love it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think struggles have been when I had to make it take a back seat. You build up all of those clients after a while and then have to tell them you just do not have time. It was hard. Also, new photographers charging nothing for sessions. That is very hard when you are trying to run a business. I try and be so super reasonable with my pricing but I do have to rent props and buy sets to keep it new and fun.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I specialize in children and family photography. I am very good with the children and can typically get many smiles. I am getting very busy with hospital NB sessions. These are my favorite and I LOVE them. The baby is only that fresh and tiny for a small amount of time. I do not use a flash and the babies and I take so many cute pictures unlike many hospital photographers that work for the hospital. I think what sets me about is how affordable I am AND my turn around to clients is less than two weeks and offseason one week. I know parents want these pictures fast, so I edit them right away and get them to them.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me, is making my clients happy and also to be happy with what I am doing.

Pricing:

  • I charge a 150 flat fee on sessions
  • Mini sessions range from 95-175 depending on props
  • Fresh 48 is 150
