Meet Angela Thomas of Birthday Sugar: Party Designers in Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Thomas.

Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Birthday Sugar started out as event planning company specializing in children’s parties. I actually started off by planning my twins first birthday party birthday. At the time, I could not find any planners in my area that specialized in kids events. So, I and mom and started planning, and almost seven years later, my company has grown to be the largest supplier of children party rentals in Georgia and Alabama.

Has it been a smooth road?
There were most definitely struggles along the way. Seven years ago when I started out, finding information was not as easy as it is now. A lot of the techniques that I learned are self-taught. This is a business that requires a team. You will burn yourself out easily if you try to do it alone.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in upscale kids parties, we are most known for our “over the top” kids parties and baby showers. As a company, we are most proud of being able to successfully branch out and create three separate subsidiaries. Which are Birthday Sugar: Bridal (specializing in wedding planning and design).
Sugar Seats (luxury chair leasing company).
And our newest addition Sugar Props (specialty prop rental company).
I believe what sets us apart from others is the fact that we set the trends as opposed to following trends.
We also created an internship program that teaches individuals to not only learn how to become an event designer but most importantly, we teach our interns how to operate and manage a business.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely, there are so many opportunities in Atlanta as well as other places. Your business will give you what you give it. A business can thrive anywhere there is a need. If someone is starting out, I would recommend that you first narrow down what you would like to specialize in, master your specialty and build off that one thing until you can expand into larger areas within your industry.
