Meet Angie Feemster of West Cobb – Marietta/Kennesaw/Acworth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Feemster.

Angie Feemster

Angie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in the New Orleans area, music has always been an important part of my life. I guess you could say I was shaped by a culture where music wasn’t an event — it was a way of life. Our family always had music playing in the house and we continue that tradition in our house today. In college in the early 90’s, I was immersed in the New Orleans music scene – Tipitina’s, Maple Leaf, Bon Temps, Carrollton Station. When we moved to Georgia in 2010 I was always looking for the live music in our area. Of course, I knew where to find great music in the city, but in our little corner of Georgia, West Cobb, it was hit or miss. We didn’t want to travel far either. Where were the neighborhood music joints? I think the first live music I experienced here was at Johnnie MacCracken’s – in the beer garden under the stars with Eight O’Eight. I wanted more! MacCracken’s has been our homebase for music ever since and with that fantastic new stage in the beer garden the energy is amplified.

So, I had been thinking about starting a simple one-stop-shop social media page to post flyers that I find for music in our area. This idea was in the back of my mind for several years. My goal was not only to plan my own weekend, but maybe others would appreciate the information too. I also wanted to support local songwriters and venues that support live music. Finally, one night while at dinner with friends we were discussing New Year’s resolutions. I decided this was it. Once I shared my goal to start a live music page it was out – I had to follow through. Live Music West Cobb, was launched 1/23/23. It exploded! I had no idea how much music was happening around me until I started my page. It’s been a fun 3 years so far – so many really special experiences. I’ve been able to meet some crazy talented musicians and create friendships along the way with music fans as well as musicians. The encouragement I receive from musicians, fans, and venues has been incredible. When people tell me they rely on the page to plan their weekends, it reminds me that this has become something truly meaningful. That first year, I was honored to be nominated and won 1st Place in Best of Cobb in 2024 and 2nd place in 2025 for Best Local Blogger/Influencer. I didn’t create this page to become an influencer – I was just trying to find what brings me and others JOY. I have about 4000 followers combined between the Instagram page and FB group. Music fans want to know where to go. Musicians want to know where to go as well. Musicians reach out to me often when they see videos I post at gigs and they ask “How can I play there?”.

I have several goals with my page.
1. To bring people together, cultivate community for live music fans and musicians. That’s where the magic is – when the audience and the music come together. It’s not just entertainment – it’s electric.
2. To promote musicians and small music venues. I like to go to gigs and take videos for the page so fans can discover, follow and attend future gigs. I post about new releases on music platforms as well since we have such a strong community of songwriters. Lots of tagging and sharing to increase exposure for the music.
3. Keep it local – “Music in our own backyard”. Keep the focus on our small corner of the world. Alot of music fans just want to drive 5-20 min to go out. There are so many venues hosting live music that it’s absolutely possible to stop by 5 gigs in one night. I’ve done it!

Songwriter nights are probably one of my favorite events – the intimate setting, the storytelling, the vulnerability, the support, discovering new artists, following/listening to them on on Spotify. Garage Door Sessions at The Third Door and The Hunt House Listening Room are just 2 of my favorites for songwriter experiences, For the live music “late shift” you can always find music going till 1am at MacCracken’s on the weekend. 278 South in Hiram has a great stage and a great crowd as does Dixie Tavern in Marietta and Center Street Tavern in Acworth. Lots of energy and dancing. For a more calm date night vibe stop by Lumiere Lounge at The Strand and The High Note at Hamp & Harry’s. These are just a few of the venues around West Cobb hosting live music. If you want to take the intimate vibe to a new level how about literal music in someone’s backyard? Don’t miss a show at Carrie’s Corner or Lakeside Lounge this year, where actual homeowners host songwriters. These events are really special.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say that if there were any obstacles or challenges to running the Live Music West Cobb page it would be not being able to attend all the gigs! Sometimes I want to be at 3 places at the same time. In the beginning, I spent alot of time on gathering, making and posting flyers, but it really isn’t that time consuming now. The algorithm feeds it to me and I feed it to the music fan masses, Many musicians and venues are tagging me more because they see the value this page holds for the music community, which makes it less likely I will miss their flyer in my lineup. My biggest challenge really doesn’t affect me as much as the musician and venue, but “help me help you” by tagging me in flyers so I can know it exists and I can share it – the whole scene wins.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Live Music West Cobb is a hobby for me. What started out as a simple way to organize gig flyers evolved into a highly enagaged music community It brings me a great deal of joy to see how live music has evolved in West Cobb in the last few years. I see more venues offering live music, I also see more venues creating professional flyers with a full month of booked gigs that they send out at the start of every month. Some venues never did that, but they are now. I think many of them are seeing the value in having music as an integral part of their weekend, and sometimes weekday, offering. If you follow the FB group you see that there are dated posts with a lineup of flyers. Those dated posts get updated during the week as flyers are collected. It’s simple and organized by date. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll find mostly stories with flyers for upcoming gigs like a “heads up” for that week then the same flyers are posted in stories on the day of the event.

As far as my “day job” I get to be creative there, too. I’ve been an avid photographer since I was on the yearbook staff in high school in the 80’s, so I feel pretty lucky to be able to be the website photographer for Urban Renewal Consignment in Kennesaw. I get to continue being creative, take photos all day, make social media content and thrift some hip clothing. It’s a beautiful women’s consignment boutique – another valuable small business owned and run by women. Check it out in person or online!

How do you think about happiness?
The growth of this page has been entirely organic and fueled by a strong connection with venues, artists, and local music lovers. Obviously, music brings happiness….and connection. Music doesn’t just entertain – it creates community. I see it all the time in the crowd and on the stage – the synergy, the energy, the community, the storytelling. I feel really happy when music fans reach out to me to tell me how much they love the page and that they plan their weekends based on what’s playing around town. Musicians reach out often thanking me for the support. It’s alot of work to promote yourself as a musician and if I can share a flyer with a few 1000 music fans with the click of a button I’m doing it! Same for sharing new album releases. It’s so important to get their work out there because so much love and devotion and energy and pain went into making that music and getting it on an album. I can appreciate that and I’d like to help others see it, feel it and experience it.
