Meet Anita Odiboh of Lashed By Omo in Kennesaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Odiboh.

Anita, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The story of me becoming my own boss all started when my older sister had a vision of me working on people as a Licensed esthetician. You know of course me being young around the age of 16, at the time my mind wasn’t in the entrepreneurship state of mind. All I knew was daddy was going to pay for it and I didn’t have to lift a finger lol seeing as I am a daddy “s girl. I always had a passion for the beauty industry it just wasn’t as strong as it is now. By the time I hit the age of 17/18, senior in high school, On ladies varsity basketball team, had a part-time job as a public employee, so you know I really thought I was doing the dang thing lol. My mindset had really shifted and turns out I was wrong. Prior to our last couple of basketball games, I tore my ACL and for those of you that know then you know that was it for me. I couldn’t finish out my last season of varsity athletics due to the injury. Now here comes January, I had my surgery at the beginning of January and was on bedrest practically the rest of the month, couldn’t walk, couldn’t get out of bed, couldn’t WORK, basically I couldn’t do anything that involved the use of my legs for about two and a half weeks. As the days went by I turned to YouTube, watching daily vlogs, (De’ arra & Ken, Josh and Isi, and I am Just Airi) and suddenly one day as I was watching a vlog I then saw a video on how to apply for individual lash extensions, so I clicked on the video. I laid there watching, and in my mind, I was like wow people do this for a living, and it caught my attention. Then I said what if I could do that and start my own business as a certified lash technician, So after that, the thought would always cross my mind and more and more videos would pop up, I saw what was indeed a bigger picture for my future. So then I decided to take the initiative. April 15, 2019 I decided to take my first In-person Certification class to become a certified lash tech. I met all Requirements and boom I was a certified lash technician. This journey of entrepreneurship isn’t easy at all. I am still investing, growing and learning the game. This has got to be the best life-long decisions that I have made so far and I cant wait to see where my feet set sail next!!! My first anniversary is coming up and I have something special in-store. My business name is called Lashed by Omo (Omo being short for Omonigbho, meaning Worth more than money). My name is Anita Odiboh and I am the CEO of Lashed by Omo Luxury lash Extensions.

Has it been a smooth road?
Seeing as my mother and older sister are entrepreneurs themselves, I thought it would be easy for me as well, But let me tell you I was wrong AGAIN. The road to entrepreneurship was not easy at all. After getting accepted into my dream school @Kennesaw State University, my parents weren’t fond of the idea of me starting my own business before entering my first semester of college. My parents are Nigerian, so books, studies, and books were all that was on their minds, and I definitely understood that. Not having their full support was a little draining, so I turned to faith and prayer, Also didn’t really have all the funds I needed to start out. Seeing as I was only 18 at the time. I didn’t know who else to turn to for that full support that I was missing. No matter what happened, I still had a vision in mind and with that came a definite plan. From then on, I put my plan into action.

Tell us more about the business.
I go by Anita, The face behind lashed by Omo. My specialty is in the area of lashing of course. I am currently still in the beginning stages of my business, but it’s the Reviews/satisfaction, customer care and level of professionalism that allows my business to thrive the way it does. I’d ask around if I were you *wink*. The fact that I know that my business is being spread by word of mouth and it’s still in the beginning stages is what I am most proud of. Sometimes I even feel like the underdog. When my new clients come to me, it is usually based on references from a friend or its a complaint of another lash tech that didn’t properly set the foundation. No shade towards all of my other lash sisters, but to be an eyelash technician, you have to have patience and have a passion for what you do. I like to make all my clients feel like they have a foundation to flourish and thrive on, Starting with the first feature people normally notice after getting the lash experience and having a vision in mind from start to finish. For me, I would say its quality of service over the money, yeah, the money is great and all but what type of quality are you servicing your clients with, you know? In all honesty, I do take my time with my work and I love the quality of work that is being put out there every time. My client’s reaction is priceless every time they look at themselves after being serviced. I love this field of work.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see This industry expanding and evolving for good. There will continue a trend of bottom lashes, a wispy set of lashes and more voluminous sets. Instead of the normal classy/natural look. In regards to Big shifts in the industry, I don’t necessarily think there will be any occurrences.
