Meet Ashley Eskinde of Glam Hair Boutique in West Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Eskinde.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Ashley Eskinde and I’m from New Orleans, I currently live in Atlanta I moved here in 2005 after Katrina. I’m 26 years old & a mother to a beautiful smart, intelligent, caring and sweet babygirl. Her name is Kailey A’myi and she is 7 years old, I started Glam Hair Boutique in 2016 with my hairline, & then later on branded Glam Minks, When I first started I had a clear vision of what I wanted to do and where I wanted my business to be within the next 5-10 years, I had my challenges in the beginning & still do but that is all apart of being an entrepreneur. I put in alot of work overtime like creating my marketing material, business cards, website etc coming up with ideas to market my brands online and off. I’ve done my research over the years, I knew I didn’t want to sell Brazilian hair and I knew I had to make my company stand out from the rest. So, I studied the Indian culture from what they eat, how what they eat impact the different textures of hair, how the temples work and why they shave their heads, I have learned and done the research because I promised myself I will know everything about the business before I start promoting it because the last thing you want is someone knowing more than you about your product you selling. I have learned the difference between Indian & Brazilian hair and how it actually became “Brazilian,” then I started searching for vendors in the Indian hair industry, That process alone took a year to find a good vendor. I started off doing wholesale and she provided amazing hair but I knew I was paying more because I didn’t actually have the “plug” so I did more research until I found the actual vendor in India. Once I did, I tested each texture for three months to make sure I was providing quality hair to my customers. After that I always market even when I did not have any hair on hand, Once I did which was back in February 2016 it was around the Zulu Ball in New Orleans I remember my hair had literally just arrived and back then I was a assistant manager at Rainbow so I had the responsibility of the store plus once I got off my own business, I didn’t have a chance to test my hair once it arrived & I literally sold out that day but decided to keep 6 bundles so I could test the hair, I didn’t have any complaints & once I tested the hair I realized how much I love Indian hair and the actually difference that I studied. I had customers before I had product that is how much I market my business, That was and still is my key to success no matter what market what you selling because the product is going to come. I remember asking my dad should I buy it and he said yes he was my number one supporter and when I was in doubt he always told me just do it and he seen my creativity and my passion. My entire family has motivated me each person is very special to me and I’m grateful I have my mother, my aunts and uncle and cousins by my side helping me along the way. Support can be anything from sharing your post or helping me with something or giving advice and I appreciate my family. Then in 2017 I started my Mink Lash Line Collection, Finding this vendor was easier than my hairline because I have the experience on what to look for and what to ask, I started out with 4 styles now I have 7 well over that I just add new styles every couple of months. My minks are high quality and fast selling as well. When I first started I use to sell out within a week then it became a day, Between my hairline & minks they are both top quality and last for a very long time. I’ve tested each product I sell and I wear all of my products. I also plan to do seminars around the works to teach others how to start a business when you life going on because I go through it and I’m a prime example if I can do it anyone can. This journey of mines is just the beginning and I’m glad I’m able to share it with the world.

The main goal I always had is to be consistent with my business and consistently market. That’s what got me far in my business today by staying determined, consistent and ambitious no matter what struggles I’ve encountered throughout the process, I had many challenges throughout the years but despite anything I kept a clear mind and vision about my brands and where I wanted to be. I’ve inspired a lot of people which inspired me to keep going, My advice to anyone starting a business is to stay motivated, find a need for your business, be consistent in everything you do and do not allow hard times to distract from your ultimate goal in life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles I’ve encountered were being a single mother working to provide for us and keeping bills paid because I didn’t have help in the beginning with her father so it was really rough for me, I couldn’t fully invest in everything I wanted, It was times where I had to choose between paying rent or putting food in our mouth, But I always found a way no matter what and throughout those times I worked even harder with my business, I marketed like crazy and I created my own website, my flyers, business cards, etc. I stayed busy with my business when my mind was everywhere and me being stressed about bills. God play a big part in my life and the way I look at it is it’s just me, my baby, God and my business with him I got through it all. Now, I’m at the point to where I can invest way more into my business & really achieve my goals. But starting out it wasn’t a walk in the park, stayed up many nights, cried many times, prayed every day. I spoke everything into existence and I started trusting God more and putting my faith into him. So, once I did that everything flowed correctly and when struggles became I knew how to handle them better and continue to stay focus.

Please tell us about Glam Hair Boutique.
I specialize in the hair and lash industry, I am known for providing quality virgin Indian hair and quality mink lashes, I am proud of both my brands because each one brings quality and a need for business in this industry. I set myself apart from others by being creative, coming up with new ways to market my business for each season, Creating a way for others to start their own business by giving out advice, mentoring others that have been in similar situations. Actually doing research of what I’m selling & I show my customers that I wear my products only and how I test each product out before selling it to make sure I’m giving the best quality. So for me it’s all about being creative in every way and how you market, how you teach others to be successful & pit others in a winning position to grow together.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory was before Katrina, I am from New Orleans and I moved to Georgia in 2005 but before everything, I used to have so much fun with my father side of the family and growing up with my older cousins. Us racing each other in the streets, from walking to the corner store or going to the candy lady back in the day. I used to play sports like run track, I’ve played softball and I danced in every parade when Mardi Gras season came. I really enjoyed myself when I was on the dance team for Nanny’s Jazz Dancers in New Orleans, I remember times at practice joking around playing and learning our routines, it was very fun and that was something I was very good at doing and I also won a trophy and was named Queen of the Jazz dancers. We had a big masquerade ball when I won and everyone took pictures with me. My childhood was a good one and I enjoyed it to the fullest. Everything was so simple back then versus now.
