Today we’d like to introduce you to Beg1n

Hi BEG1N, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is BEG1N. I became an artist in 2019 under a different name (Rickey Melodiez). I released my first EP in February of that year (Emotions EP). The name change was an idea that came from my brother KingDrums (KingDrums Productions). It has a lot of meaning to it. Never be afraid to START.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. The biggest thing was being heard as an artist. I never had a manager to show me the ropes. So I pretty much had to do everything on my own with help from some dope creative people. If I didn’t work with my brother Torin Bell to put out the EP I would’ve never been able to get my feet off the ground as an artist. Now I feel like I’m in the best position possible to show people who I am.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer/songwriter/musician. Music has been in me since birth. As a songwriter when I hear a beat I can catch a vibe instantly. It’s a gift that I’ve been blessed with. For me I learn from my peers. It helps me to become better creatively.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I take smart risks if it makes sense. Putting out my EP was the biggest risk I’ve ever taken as an artist. Once you put a project on streaming platforms it’s there forever. I think I got good feedback from it. If you don’t step out of your comfort zone you can’t grow.
