Meet Brandon Bland of Smoove Moves Training in South Atlanta (Metropolitan Pkwy)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Bland.

Brandon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As an ex-college athlete, I always wanted to stay around the game of basketball. At times, I literally feel as if it’s my life force and without it, I would cease to exist as a person. I’ve dedicated a lot of hours blood sweat and tears when it comes to the game of basketball but it doesn’t stop there. Being a military kid and traveling a lot, I always recognized the need for more inclusivity among youth and how that itself manifested into different areas. I went to school for criminal justice and did a lot of community work as a young adult. Picking up on such skills and practices like restorative justice and effective communication. While talking amongst stale holders in my life realizing that I no longer wanted to work meaningless jobs, and my purpose was much larger, I took the plunge into entrepreneurship with the idea that basketball could not only be a tool for athletes but a tool for everyone when you add the other components of the game. Smoove Moves Training was born. I tied restorative justice clinics and basketball camps together and I was off to make the world a better place through sport. Since then, I have joined with Certified Hoops Fitness and Keyworkoutz here in Atlanta to build whole people and not just athletes. Every day we strive to get the best out of everyone we encounter as we strive to be the best that we can be in a likeminded effort to get results on and off the court. This is my legacy and something I carry deeply as a father and community member.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh no Smoove is the finished product. On the way, there was sleeping in my car because clients were slow and side jobs didn’t fit the bills. There were many no’s for fits with other programs. There were nos for funding and even just a chance to help. But that’s what this program is built on. Being able to overcome, being able to adapt and make even the rough jagged edges in life as Smoove as possible along the journey. Nothing worth having will come without a fight and most times those fights aren’t physical they are mental, emotional, phycological, and financial. But just like Jordan in the flu game, when you realize you owe your teammates in life and yourself everything ounce of energy, you have you find an extra gear some extra faith and you make it happen.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Smoove Moves Training – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The biggest thing that sets Smoove Moves Training apart is it’s more than just being an athlete. I make it a staple to be a great person. You don’t want to be the star player with a bad attitude that nobody wants to play with or the athlete that can’t communicate when in an interview or the person who sees a need anywhere and lets the situation go. You have to be as passionate about winning the right way as you do about winning in itself. The fundamentals are taught here. There’s a focus on playing the game the right way just as there is a focus on carrying yourself the right way. Smoove Moves Training epitomizes the duality between Basketball and life. As we’ve grown we’ve done community work, feeding the homeless, peace walks, and other community events. That will always be a vital piece to the puzzle. The reality is while there will be a lot of players go on to play higher levels with the sport, there will be many others who will still need to operate at a high level in life and you can’t ignore that as a trainer or coach or mentor. We don’t sell dreams we make manifesting them possible. We really are about the positive growth in mind body and soul of the athlete. Jordan and Kobe And Lebron gain their edges from within, fostering healthy mindset is paramount to win. We strive to achieve that in every capacity.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Bigger and better is always the plan. This isn’t something I want to keep to myself and hoard glory from. I want this program to collaborate with others and really change and harbor the true essence of this game. Healthy minded clothing and slogans, bigger community events with more reach to people in need, joint efforts with the hawks and other professional teams, a new facility, a podcast and more are all developments on the way. The sky is the limit when you put the development of people as the precipice of business.
