Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Hoffman.
Brooke, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a co-owner of Magnolia Media Group for almost two years, but it was a crazy journey to get here! MMG was founded in 2014 by Heather Loveridge. She was a rockstar solopreneur for years before that, but as her work gained traction, she brought me on board, and a few years later, Carlie joined the team. It wasn’t long before things took a major shift.
In August of 2023, during what we thought was a regular team meeting, Heather shared that God was leading her in a different direction and she would be stepping back from Magnolia Media Group at the end of the year.
That’s when she asked Carlie and me to consider taking over and continuing the work as co-owners.
Before this, we’d never had a conversation about this possibility, and Carlie and I both felt about as unprepared as two twenty-somethings being offered a company could feel! But after a lot of prayer and consideration, and some really honest conversations together, we decided to accept the challenge.
January 2026 will mark two years for us as the owners of MMG, and while the journey is far from over, we’re immensely grateful for all we’ve learned and how far we’ve come — both as people and as a company — in a short time!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In many ways, the road has been smoother than expected, but we have definitely had some experiences, too! We’ve had to learn when to accept and when to deny work opportunities, seen team members come and go, experienced numerous changes in our clients’ leadership, gone through “leaner” times financially, had to let a client go for the first time and learned a lot about the importance of working together and being each other’s biggest supporters.
We heard numerous times that going into this as 50/50 owners would not work. We’ve been misunderstood and underappreciated for the work that we do. Though thankfully infrequently, we’ve experienced disrespect as a result of being young women in business.
But through it all, we’ve found that working as a true team has resulted in more growth than we ever could have imagined. Carlie and I share many similarities, but we also each have strengths and weaknesses that the other doesn’t. Working together in this capacity has taught us not only how to work effectively as business partners but has also grown us closer personally, which is a major blessing that many people have made sound impossible!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
“Story-driven marketing that makes a difference” — that’s what we love offering nonprofits and small, but big-hearted, businesses in metro Atlanta and beyond.
Our storytelling includes conducting interviews with contacts — beneficiaries, donors, volunteers, staff, partners, etc. — and then transcribing, writing, editing and finally delivering a feature article similar to what you’d read in a magazine.
These stories are at the heart of all we do, including blog content, social media content creation and management, graphic design, email marketing, fundraising campaigns, branding, website design, videography, photography, donor communication, marketing strategy, consulting and more.
We’re a small but mighty, woman-powered team, passionate about partnering with organizations that are making a difference to help them effectively communicate their story, share their mission and propel their work forward.
Our focus is on people over profit — no pun intended, as we work with nonprofits! And I’d like to think that what sets us apart is a genuine care for and consideration for the people we serve and the stories we tell. It’s more than a job to us; it’s a chance to be a part of some incredible work being done throughout our community!
Some of our proudest accomplishments include being named one of the 2024 Best of Gwinnett marketing firms, ranking as finalists in the Gwinnett Business Excellence Awards, growing our business, and playing a part in our clients collectively raising more than $1 million in 2024!
What makes you happy?
A good story makes us really happy! There’s nothing that makes a hard day all worth it quite like hearing, “I had the courage to reach out for help because I read the stories and saw the way this organization helped others like me.”
Writing is certainly an art, and seeing the way real people’s stories change lives and perspectives truly never gets old. (On a less serious note, Taco Tuesdays as a team at our favorite lunch spot and walks outside as a little afternoon break also make us really happy!)
