Meet Camille Walker of Lux Glam Bar Salon in Jonesboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Walker.

Camille, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always known that I was great at styling hair. Even during my childhood, styling hair was what I considered playing. I went to cosmetology school straight from high school and continued to work in the salon that I was hired my junior year of high school. I’ve always known that I wanted to own a salon. I had been told as a teenager that being a hairstylist/salon owner wouldn’t be enough. However, I’ve always loved being a stylist and I went with my heart and pursued cosmetology. While working in the same salon, my clientele was growing so rapidly that I found myself turning an alarming number of customers away because I was too busy to accept them. I left the salon I worked in for six years after. I knew I was ready to open my own salon. I styled clients in my apartment so that I could save more money to be able to open my salon without any loans at all. I opened my salon at the age of 24 in July 2014. In 2018, I relocated lux glam bar to a larger location. Lux Glam Bar’s team consists of six hairstylists, one makeup artist, and one mink lash technician that are employed at the salon and my business has been undeniably blessed!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have run into a few obstacles over the years. I had a point where four stylists left my salon all within two months to branch out on their own. While I could understand their need to venture out, it left me in a tough spot with running a salon and only two hairstylists. I hired more stylists and kept working at it.

Please tell us about Lux Glam Bar Salon.
Lux Glam Bar is a one-stop-shop. We specialize in everything. Weaves, natural hair, relaxed hair, cuts, color, braids, makeup, and mink lashes. We also sell top-quality virgin hair extensions. We make our clients feel at home and we provide every service for added convenience for them.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing. The times that I ran into tough situations taught me a lot. It’s the reason I’m in business five and a half years later.
