Today we’d like to introduce you to Candas Perrin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Candas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hiya! I love to make extraordinary somethings. I was born & raised in Atlanta, Georgia. As the only child, I always had a passion to be creative and curiosity for a lot of different art forms.
After graduating high school, It was clear that I needed to major in something that would satisfy my passion creativity. I started as a freelance artist in 2007, working as a photographer while attending Georgia Perimeter College. After transferring to Georgia State University 2009, I elevated my skill level in photography, design, drawing, and painting. I graduated from Georgia State University in 2012 with a BA of Art with a concentration in Studio. I completed internships to gain even more professional experience. During my internship with a Public Relations firm, I was inspired to expand my own brand. CAP Creative was born because of customer satisfaction and praise I received from clients.
Today, I continue to expand my knowledge in graphic design, photography as well as other artistic fields. I specialize in the clean and simple design and expressive photography. PS: Collaborating with professionals in the music industry to develop their brand (and songwriting) give me the wiggles.
Creativity flows through my veins.
Fast forward to 2019… now, I am in a space where I am taking things so much slower and fine-tuning what I really want for my business. In my early design years, I would take on as many projects as I could and not really specializing in anything. Now, I only take certain projects with music or entertainment. I am also exploring new areas as a career choice. I not only design and do photography. I write. There are so many levels that go into a business and I feel like I am just now getting it. Slowly but surely.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? Far from it. Having a business takes strategic planning every step of the way. Have I mastered it? Not yet and I still have a lot more to figure out. I will. Some of the struggles I have faced along the way are handling clients, saying “NO”, learning who I am within my business, working after getting off of a full-time job and figuring out what is next for my business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have a graphic design/photography company “Cap Creative” My slogan is Clean. Simple. Creative. My specialty now is working with music artist on album covers and their branding. As a company, I am most proud of staying the course and working with people who really enjoy what is created for them. The thing that sets me apart from others I think is my attitude and being honest about what I can do and are willing to do. In addition, I love clean and simple creative, especially when it a photograph involved. I make sure I am constantly looking at what I have created to see what I can improve on before the final goes out. It pushed me to think outside the box.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is absolutely a city for graphic designers and highly saturated. Atlanta is a great start because we have so many different businesses. If you are just starting out as a designer here in Atlanta, I would definitely narrow down what area it is you would want to work in, what clients you would like to have, what type of money you want to make. FIGURE OUT YOUR WHY. FIND YOUR NICHE! Then, work on your brand and tailor it to those people and do it boldly and confidently with a great attitude.
