Meet Ciera Marks of Kc Nail and Brow Xclusivez in Snellville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciera Marks.

Ciera, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was four years old, my mom Kimberly who is also my partner owned a nail salon that later grew into a hair/nail salon. I being in the shop sweeping or trying to finish homework and losing focus trying to see what designs my mom came up with. I guess these are the seeds that helped my career blossom into what it is today.

Throughout college and cosmetology school, I pursued hair as a side hustle. But after the sudden death of my father on new year’s eve of 2012. My mother and I decided to open a nail suite specializing in nail art. Typically, we have to drive across town to find a nail tech that offers an array of nail art. So, we decided to do something about it!

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a crazy journey!! I basically quit my job and went full throttle into my new found passion. I’ve just hit my 5-year mark as a nail artist/business owner. At first, things were extremely hard, customers don’t magically appear and your constantly breaking even. Sometimes, it’s super easy to doubt yourself but you have to respect the process, anything worth fighting for takes time and perseverance.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kc Nail and Brow Xclusivez story. Tell us more about the business.
At Kc Nails, we operate by appointment only to offer our clients a cozy, one on one experience or as I like to call it ”The Suite Experience.” We are most proud of being a black-owned family business with great customer service. Specializing in acrylics, gel nails, gel manicures, and gel fx. We are known for our nail art. Client’s are encouraged to bring pictures of ideas and inspiration but we don’t mind a good nail challenge. A typical appointment runs about 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on the service.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe nails over the next 5-10 years will continue to grow. Social media and the entertainment industry brought nail art back in a big way! Making nails an accessory for the everyday woman. Even men are starting to pay more attention to whether or not a woman has her nails done. From the minimalist manicure to cat claws, nails will always be relevant.
