Meet Cierra Currin of LocsByC in Douglasville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cierra Currin.

Cierra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Initially, in the beginning of my business journey, it wasn’t exactly planned to be how it is now. I never wanted to do hair but I’ve always loved doing my own. It started out with just that, I did my own hair one day in a popular loc style, I would’ve went to somebody else but I always had the belief that if somebody else can do it on me I can do it on myself! When I did my hair, the people around me loved it and wanted me to do theirs. And that’s exactly how I got started, I did my first head in December of 2018 and had been growing my clientele ever since.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the major obstacles and challenges I faced within initially starting my business was balance. I am a full-time student at Spelman College along with being a Bonner scholar which requires weekly service, so being able to balance school, community service and handling clients at the same time was important to me. The main solution in which I had to master was time management in all aspects of my life.

Another obstacle I faced business-wise was the location. Initially, I worked out of my home but this soon became problematic for the growing and shifting clientele & professionalism. It took me reaching out and using my resources to find the shop Im in today!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is Locs by C. I came up with the name with the help of my close friends. My service is protective styles such as faux locks & twists. My most popular style and what got me started are my Goddess Locs. Today I do various loc styles that are trending through the market. Generally, I’m most proud of the way I’ve built my business page, with the help of my friends and family the page has grown tremendously and I find joy in controlling and updating it. I also believe the image and style of my business page is what may set me aside from others, I value the way I present my work and interact with my people, it’s the most fun to me!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I’ve always had an outgoing And friendly personality, I was always the child who loved the talk and I’m still that way today! My interests as a child were fashion and media. I used to want to be a fashion designer so badly. This turned into me wanting to be a fashion merchandiser, then an influencer and then finally wanting to work in the industry of marketing and entertainment. I’ve personally grown into these interests and have turned them into a profitable activity along the way and I still have so much more growing to do so I can’t wait to see where my endeavors lead me.
