Today we’d like to introduce you to Composure Hair Studio.
Hi Composure Hair Studio, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Composure is a story of two passions coming together. My passion for hair started when I was just 9 years old. I began my cosmetology career while still in high school, and over the years, I’ve had the privilege of changing lives and educating other professionals. In 2008, I earned my educator license. I’ve always been drawn to the instant gratification that extensions and non-surgical hair replacement provide—it’s deeply fulfilling to see the transformation right away.
One day, I put out a model call looking for before-and-after photos, and that’s when Tasha responded. She asked if I could do her hair type—mentioning that she was white and I was Black. My answer was simple: of course! She agreed, and from that moment, a great friendship began.
A few years later, Tasha asked if I had ever thought about owning my own salon. I told her I’d love to, but my heart is in hair—not in running a business. That’s when she saw the opportunity to bridge the gap and help bring my dream to life. And just like that, our partnership was born—and so was Composure Hair Studio.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. we have had challenges with getting permits, scammers, and issues with marketing companies. We have also had a rude racists caller who asked terrible questions and was asked to not patronize our business. He was blocked. This experience showed us that we would ruffle a few feathers with our vision and business model.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in all hair treatments, from cut and color to extension transformations. We are very proud to cater to all in the diverse neighborhood of Johns Creek. So no matter your skin color, culture or texture of hair you will be welcome here at Composure Hair Studio. We speak multiple languages and have translators for everyone. We even have a private room for women that wear Hijab. All Shades Welcome No Shade Allowed. That is what sets us apart! The beauty industry is divided to an extreme degree. With “white salons” and “black salons”. So there are racially mixed families going to 2-3 salons to receive hair services. Usually depending on your location, skin color and/or hair texture you will seek the salon that makes you feel most comfortable or that can accommodate you or your children. This is a somewhat taboo subject, but we are not afraid to broach the subject loudly and make it known that we want to have a place in the community where everyone is able to come and be the best version of themselves. The salon is a place where life hacks tips and business referrals happen. We want to open those opportunities for friendships to everyone.
How do you think about luck?
We have been blessed that God takes an interest in our business and we are confident that we have a model which is in line with his will. God is not partial, according to Acts 10:34-35. At Composure Hair Studio, we welcome everyone, we are not partial.
