Meet DJ Suga Shae

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Suga Shae.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My unique story is that I am from the Rochester New York and that I’ve always had a love for music growing up as a young girl my mom always had me playing different instruments like the clarinet the violin the saxophone the drums are also in high school would put the music together for different school functions and also just for my friends once I graduated from high school and moved to Atlanta Georgia in 2005 once moving here I jumped into the Atlanta nightlife becoming a bartender and many clubs around the city Being a bartender in the clubs I noticed that I would want to always suggest music to the DJs and also behind the bar just paying attention to what’s being played next which made me curious about the art of DJ and how cool it would be if there was a girl creating the mood of the club or even being on a big stage with an artist on tour always was a dream of mine. The last club I worked at central station close down 2013 I knew that was my opportunity to take DJ serious and really learn how to mix record that really learn the art of DJ I found a mentor DJ OMEZY who taught me all the fundamentals from there I purchased all my equipment laptop mixers speakers headphones backpacks tables tablecloths microphone everything business cards and I was able to work within six months of practicing with my first gig Cafe Circa August of 2014.

From there I was able to work that club, and I am there till this day I was able to quit bartending for good never had to go back to bartending and I was able to work many spots throughout the city also in different cities as well I have DJed Jamaica NYC North Carolina, LA, NORTH CAROLINA for CIAA . IVE DJ Bronner Brothers hair shows. And now I’m on Streetz 94.5 as a mixed show DJ on Wednesdays Nights. I’m almost in my 5th of DJing, and I still have a lot more to learn and accomplish, but I’m very proud of myself. I believed in my dream, and I’m still following thru

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a DJ I play music at parties,  weddings, fashion shows, clothing stores, clubs , festivals, and radio. I mix and play songs from new to old school I mix diff genres and create a vibe mood or setting for different events. I love to see people having fun and in a good mood. I love seeing them dancing singing along to the songs that I’m playing! I love to take them on a journey. Being a DJ, I’m able to take u anywhere u wanna go! Wanna b in the 80s 90s 2000s or Now! I want people to walk away from my art like wow that DJ had me lit! No matter what their circumstances are, they were able to come to my event forget about it and really enjoy themselves! And b FREE! You should know that you definitely have to really be into music to do what I do because things are constantly changing and u have to adapt quickly and be able to juggle everything and play for everyone! Never know where people maybe be from.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As an artist what I define success to be would be your personal goals you know whatever it is that you personally want to achieve and you’re knocking those things out I feel like that’s what makes you successful so It could be the simplest thing, but if it’s a goal of yours and you are able to succeed then you were being successful. A characteristic that I feel is essential to success would be humbleness.

People can see my work on Friday’s at Escobar. Saturdays at Cafe Circa. Sunday’s at Midtown Tavern. You also can tune into Streetz 94.5 on Wednesday’s at 8 pm for my live mix. Follow me on SoundCloud I upload mixed there as well. People can support me by simply coming to one of my events or following me on social media or event booking me for their next event.
