Today, we’d like to introduce you to Edwin Borquez. Edwin was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Elliot Carlyle.
Hi Edwin, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in the Dominican Republic and came to the USA at the age of 7. That’s when the journey began. I remember always having a creative spirit but did not know how that would unfold. I graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in Art and Design with a concentration in Fashion Studies and a minor in Theater Arts. In that process, I decided to become a model and work as a fashion director for a small online fashion magazine. The journey empowered me to keep pushing to express myself in front of the camera and behind the scenes. I worked for a showroom in New York City and a few brands in the fashion industry as a stylist & merchandiser. I felt that there was something else I needed to create and step into, but I wasn’t able to put my finger on it. Years later, I had an inner transformation that caused me to start my brand, CURL DADDY, the “love yourself” brand. Right now, I am focused on growing the brand, modeling with Marilyn Model Management in NYC, and finally exploring my new creative outlet, photography.

Please tell us more about your brand, Curl Daddy, LLC
Curl Daddy, the “love yourself” brand, is a vegan haircare brand made for the modern curly gentleman and magical enough for the ladies. The line consists of products that are plant-based, free of harsh chemicals, and UV/Thermal Protection. In addition, the formulas help promote healthy scalp and hair growth. The entire line is designed to help you care for, protect, and style your curly textured hair. Safe for colored, straightened, and chemically treated hair. Founded in 2020, the Curl Daddy brand message is to love your hair, but most importantly, love yourself; as 60% of what you apply to yourself is absorbed into your body. To date, the brand has garnered success in the industry including completing the Workshop at Macy’s and being a twice-nominated Fashion Group International (FGI) Rising Star nominee. In addition, it was also featured in, IN STYLE Magazine as one of the top 5 products you need to add to your natural hair care regimen. Curl Daddy is also currently available on Amazon.com and Walmart.com. As an Afro-Latino-owned business, these are things I am very proud of achieving so early in my career.

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Elliot Carlyle and CURRENT•LY Global, Inc. and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with CURRENT•LY Global, Inc..
CURRENT•LY GLOBAL is a creative agency founded by Elliot Carlyle. I got the opportunity to connect with Elliot about my brand at the beginning stages of it. He was still working with Fern Mallis, the creator of Fashion Week in New York City at the time.
From the start, he understood the vision, where I wanted to take my brand, and connected with the brand message. When working with anyone is important to have synergy in vision because that will help build the strategy needed to elevate the brand. I felt that from the beginning when meeting with him.
Once the flow was established, we started working together on ways to navigate to take Curl Daddy to the next level.
One of the major things that I admire about working with Elliot is the fact that is easy to work with him. We get together, speak about the opportunities and start building from there. The process of working with him is effortless and it just flows. This is cool because his message is: empower your flow in the business. Once you work with him you really understand what that really means across the board for your business.
Besides working with him for my business I was able to collaborate with him when he was building CURRENT•LY. This made me see the magical process of how he was building from within. I was able to relate to that process because at that time I was building myself. We both do have different perspectives when it comes to doing certain things but we always find a good place where we both agree to push forward with the vision.
Once I experienced working with him on several projects and noticed how not only your business starts shifting but you as an individual start shifting as well.
This really inspired and motivated me to want to be part of his agency to join the current to elevate my business and my creative plans.
