Meet Emily and Larry Johnson of Lil Bites Food Truck in North Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily and Larry Johnson.

Emily and Larry, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
What do you get when you mix a Philly born lover of food and a Georgia native, with a family tradition in the food concession business? A husband and wife owned and operated Food Truck and Catering Business… LIL BITES!

Have you and your friends or family not been able to agree on a restaurant? At Lil Bites, there is something fun for everyone! When we decided to open Lil Bites, we knew that we had to offer a wide variety of items on the menu… and we had to be kid-friendly. Whether you’re looking for a light snack or a full meal, Lil Bites has you and your whole family covered.

Being from Philadelphia Larry insisted that we make the best, most authentic Philly Cheesesteaks in town. And Emily pays tribute to her parents’ Hopkins Nut House with boiled peanuts. Or try the buffalo chicken empanadas, pulled pork sandwich, Freedom Fries, chili dog, fried pickles and more. The kids will love our chicken nuggets, hot dogs and cheese quesadillas. And be sure to save room for the Fried Oreos (ask about the flight).

Has it been a smooth road?
My Grandmother always says, “things in life that are difficult are never easy.” A fun little family joke, but one that rings true. Anything worth having is going to take hard work, passion and dedication. There have been many road bumps and struggles along the way, but to be successful, you must persevere. However, all the bumps and struggles are worth it when we see our satisfied customers.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lil Bites Food Truck story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a food truck that specializes in “something fun for everyone,” which includes having a kids menu. Many events that we work are family-friendly, and there isn’t always a good, quick option for the kiddos. With us, mom and dad can get empanadas and a cheesesteak along with chicken nuggets and a koolaide jammer for their kids. While our menu does evolve and feature daily specials, one of the things we are most proud of are our Philly Cheesesteaks, as they are as traditional as you will find, down to the whiz and Amoroso roll. If you are looking for something with a little more kick, definitely try our Buffalo Chicken Empanadas.

In addition to our food, we are proud of who we are as business owners. We do what we say we are going to do, and as professionally as possible. However, we do still make sure to have fun while doing it.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The food truck industry is definitely growing all over the country, and definitely so in Atlanta as well. We are starting to hear legislation being introduced that should, hopefully, ease the permitting and licensing process that can cause frustration among food truck owners.
