Meet Genesis Cooper of ProSuccess eLearning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genesis Cooper.

Genesis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from Columbus High School in 2017 in Columbus, Georgia. I currently attend Mercer University as a 4th year.

ProSuccess is an eLearning business that engages with students K-12 with ProSuccess is an eLearning business that engages with students K-12 with education, financial literacy, health and nutrition, technology, business, home and vocational skills with a modernized social component while attacking the source of mass incarceration by providing an extended hand to those who are on their way to being a part of the “permanent under caste” as Michelle Alexander states.

As a child, my mother, who passed away in August 2017, owned a resume business by the name of No Limitations. By being so young, she exposed me to a key to what she saw as a successful life. So at a very young age, I constantly worked to “build my resume.” I saw my resume as a vital part of my academic career and kept it everywhere I went. Throughout my elementary (Britt David Elementary School) and middle school years (Veterans Memorial Middle School), I was very gifted and in high school, she maintained a 4.2 GPA. Whereas I did not come from a wealthy background, I was determined for my ill mother and hardworking father to not pay a dime toward my college education. I worked hard with my counselor (Dr. Christopher Porch) and received nearly $80,000 in scholarships and financial aid. I realized a pattern in my scholarship earnings.

Therefore I developed a portion of ProSuccess to be devoted to students earning scholarships in the best way possible! I eventually was accepted into Mercer University in Macon, GA, in 2017. While in my 3rd year at Mercer University, I was enrolled in an Entrepreneurship class, where I was asked to develop a business. As I brainstorm, ProSuccess was born. It started as a simple kid-friendly resume builder, but with my background in Africana Studies and my love for school, the idea and concept of ProSuccess developed into an e-learning platform that incorporated education and educational prep tools, financial literacy, health and nutrition, technology, business, home and vocational skills. Even today, ProSuccess is still growing and developing in different ways.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. Not at all. The funding process has not been too smooth. The eLearning platform is pretty pricing and along with that reaching out to various schools and other after school programs can be tiring but it’s all for these kids’ future, so it’s worth it in the end.

ProSuccess eLearning – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ProSuccess specializes in the eLearning education, financial literacy, health and nutrition, technology, business, home and vocational skills category that engages with students K-12 with various modules and modernized social component while attacking the source of mass incarceration by providing an extended hand to those who are on their way to being a part of the “permanent under caste” as Michelle Alexander states. Whereas other eLearning companies focus on the academic aspects of students, we focus on the things that are useful in trades and various field alternative to the college route.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Telling others about the mission of ProSuccess and hearing them buy-in. Having people donate to the cause, therefore, showing that others believe in what we are on a mission to accomplish.
