Today we’d like to introduce you to Geo DayDreamy.
Hi Geo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born and raised in Miami Florida, I was immersed in a multitude of cultures, artistic styles, and of course Miami Bass Music. Although I ghostwrite, draw, and make music now, my first love will always be writing. I was in third grade the first time I got paid for a short story I wrote. My first musical performance was for a crowd of over a hundred people the summer before I started middle school and I wrote the entire song myself. Throughout high school, I wrote poetry and entered multiple poetry slams and wound up placing in the top 3 at my final high school slam. I began ghostwriting poetry for others in high school, especially around valentine’s day. This opened the door for me to explore different avenues for my creativity. After high school, I attended Clark Atlanta University on a full ride. CAU has recording studios in their library, and they essentially became my second home. I was determined to get better at recording, mixing, mastering, and audio engineering in general. Throughout all four years of undergrad, I found my way to the studios any chance I could. Toward the end of my time at CAU, I was inspired to learn how to edit. This was further exacerbated by the Covid-19 Pandemic. The whole world being on lockdown felt like going into a training arc for me. I taught myself editing basics, advanced concepts, and even made guides to share what I learned with others. Today, I have well over 10,000 hours put into audio engineering, songwriting, and editing. About 10 years ago, I began writing a story entitled “Autumn Taught ‘Em.” This story would evolve over the years, taking many forms and directions ultimately being built into what I like to call a living series. This story is for anyone who is interested in love, locs, and the future. I am also building it in a way that encourages viewer participation by creating characters for them and incorporating them in the story accordingly. With such early exposure to the versatility of art and its power, I want to use my gifts to improve the world, spread joy, and create a timeless experience for anyone who comes across my work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My life has been filled with many challenges. As an only child with a father who’s been in the Caribbean my whole life, I’ve had to learn many things firsthand for myself. Despite the obvious challenges that kind of upbringing usually comes with, my true artistic awakening happened after an even bigger one. I was stopped at a red light when I was rear ended and hit into oncoming traffic. My car was totaled and I was light headed immediately. I got out the car full of adrenaline, not knowing what to expect. When I looked at the car that hit me, all I could see was a bloody air bag. It was as if any and all hostility was immediately replaced with concern. That day, my true character revealed itself to me. Sitting there with a totaled car, as the adrenaline was wearing off and pain began to set in, the only thing that went through my mind was peace and a burning desire to create the moment my body was able to again. From that day forward, I vowed that any and every opportunity I have to create in one capacity or another, whether it’s music, visual arts, or writing, I will. No day is promised, and procrastination is arrogant. No one wishes the worst upon themselves, but as for me, I’d rather prepare for it like it’s inevitable. That being said, I post every day now on Instagram @geodaydreamy. I alternate weeks to pace myself, but each day at 7:30pm/8:30pm EST, the world can expect a post from me in one form or another. I see it as something I have the opportunity to do, rather than just a job or a chore.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
GDayDreamy LLC is primarily focused on consultations, ghostwriting services, and music. I am currently using ‘Autumn Taught Em’ as a way to build an entire ecosystem of artists, fashion designers, and hair stylist. I specialize in creative writing, audio engineering, and video editing. I am known for my music, editing, and storytelling. What sets me apart from others is my unique perspective. I was born in 1997, the first year of Gen Z. However, the majority of my upbringing was spent around millennials. I remember the world before touch screens were a part of every day life, but I also hold space for nuance and advancement. Being from Miami, and growing up emersed in a variety of cultures also made me very open minded and curious about the cultural connections we all share as people. We may speak different languages, but so many of us are still saying the same things whether we realize it or not. My education is also a differentiator for me. I have a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in the field of cybersecurity and my mother was a teacher. Learning has always been very important to me and the spirit of infinite curiosity within me tends to fuel my creative endeavors. I am most proud of the consistency and network that I have been able to build over the years. I want anyone reading this to know that ‘Autumn Taught Em’ is something that they can be a part of as well. I design characters, promote businesses, and showcase other creators and entrepreneurs through music & video editing and incorporating them into an ongoing series. Ideally, not only will my story be told, but the stories of others as well.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Over the past 10 years I have helped over one hundred people graduate, find jobs, and fulfill their creative projects, I’ve also been able to profit off my music through my own website. Each listener, and anyone I was able to help, is a valued client, and many of them were repeat customers. As far as mentors, my drama teacher in high school Ms. Smith and my Writing teacher Ms. Davis are undoubtedly catalysts for solidifying my love for writing. Initially, I planned on just being a stage hand, but Ms. Smith saw way too much in me to allow it. She forced me to not only act and write scripts, but enter in poetry slams as well. I thank her every chance I get. The love of writing is what propelled me into the other mediums of creation that I practice today. As for Ms. Davis, I will never forget the day she looked me in my eye and told me “Find out who you are, your life depends on it.” That one sentence set me on a journey to learn myself as much as possible and now, years later, I think I am finally starting to understand what she meant.
