Meet Gina Sims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Sims.

Gina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in California and moved to Nashville after college. I worked in the non-profit sector for several years, and love it, but my creative side needed out! I started my business in 2013 and my only regret I didn’t start it sooner! I have loved working with my amazingly fun clients on inspiring projects. One of the surprises of this process has been developing my team. They are insanely fun to work with and they are devoted to making our business better and better every day. They are an absolute joy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting out, I relied on the amazing female entrepreneurs who were everywhere in my network, once I took the time to notice. They were (and are!) instrumental to my success in business, from how to file the right paperwork, in the beginning, to design and client advice from fellow designer friends in the area. I promise I do not ever feel a negative competitive atmosphere. We celebrate each other’s victories, offer advice and support with each other when we have setbacks, and generally have a lot of fun sharing in this amazing work we get to be a part of!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Gina Sims Designs – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a lover of color, cultivator of quirk, hunter-downer of that unique piece that will make a home your home. If there’s one thing, love, it’s how to make a space sing your praises. Whether it’s a wild piece of Venice Beach festival art, we dust off from your attic, or that brass llama collection in the guest room that wants to grace the living room mantle, Gina Sims Designs puts you at the heart of your home. Did you stumble on all the postcards you sent your parents from summer camp? Let’s find some funky frames and hang them in the guest bedroom!

A California transplant to the South, you’ll find my designs at the crossroads of those styles. I blend the carefree, timeless cool of the West Coast with the romantic, tailored charm of the South. I’m not afraid to upset the “style rules” to pull out something wild – especially if wild makes your space more you. And call it my California roots, but I’ll always shy away from precious: your space should be gorgeous, but not so gorgeous that you yell at your kids and dogs to get off the furniture. GSD designs spaces that are meant to be lived in – hard.

I’ve been published in Atlanta Magazine, HGTV Magazine, My Home Improvement Magazine, and featured on HGTV.com, StyleBlueprint, LuxPad, and Houzz. I’ve styled rooms for HGTV hosts and designed many a drop dead gorgeous living room. But no matter how many spaces I’ve styled, I approach each one with fresh eyes.
