Today we’d like to introduce you to Idunnu Tomori.
Misayo House is a boutique of fine-fashion jewelry. While living in South Africa for her husband’s job, Idunnu, a mental health professional was unable to work due to her spousal visa and she had an 18-month-old who had started pre-school. Not one to remain idle, Idunnu began selling jewelry as a way to meet others and although a lover of diamonds, she realized it would difficult to sell them to the everyday woman. It was out of the desire to share her love of classic, timeless jewelry that she was able to create a fine fashion jewelry line. Misayo, which means “Beautiful Generation” in Japanese, is the middle name of her older daughter.
Upon returning to the United States, Idunnu registered Misayo House as a company in late 2015 and began operating in January 2016. Since then, their jewelry has been featured in several magazines, blogs and even on TV (ABC7, Sarasota). Their exquisite pieces cater to those who love precious metals and stones but without the hefty price tags… all of which are guaranteed durability and a long lifespan.
Misayo House operated only as an online boutique until they moved into a showroom (by appointment only) in February 2018. There you will be able to appreciate in person their array of Fine Fashion Jewelry that will compliment a variety of wardrobes. From brides to the working woman and casual chic lady, they have you covered!
“At Misayo House, you’ll look like a million bucks without breaking the bank AND not feeling like you’ve settled!”
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road and there have been many times I’ve wanted to give up. My background is in Mental Health Counseling, so I have no business experience. Because of my background, I often give people the benefit of the doubt and from that, I have been cheated and manipulated. In the two years, we’ve been in business, I have learned a lot and I’m still learning.
Having the showroom has been a big stepping stone for us. Clients are able to get a better appreciation of our jewelry when they see them in person. Often times, people are caught off guard when they hear the prices. They are even more satisfied when they experience the durability that comes with our pieces.
We still have a long road ahead because we’re still new and need more exposure. My goal is for my company to outlive me if my two daughters decide to take over.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Misayo House Jewelry story. Tell us more about the business.
Misayo House offers exquisite fashion jewelry which we call, Fine Fashion due to it’s striking resemblance to Fine Jewelry.
We are known for our classic and timeless jewelry. During the summer, we introduce a small number of trendy pieces but clients always come back for the classics. Our studs and solitaire pendant necklaces are best sellers because you can get an every day diamond-looking set for about $100!
Our Bridal Collection is also one of the best you will find because our brides feel like they are wearing the real deal. The best part is you can wear these pieces beyond your wedding day!
I am most proud of how far I’ve come as an entrepreneur. I am naturally reserved unless I am in the chair helping someone else (as a therapist). I am truly proud that my jewelry continues to stick by what it stands for… attainable luxury!
What sets me apart is the fact that I take pride in my brand more than how much money I’m making. For me, it’s about maintaining relationships and not just making a sale.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see us as the leading jewelry company in Atlanta…, especially in bridal. A part of me wants to be in a department store such as Nordstrom but another part would like to maintain a more intimate relationship with my buyers. I would definitely like to see our bridal pieces in boutiques.
