Meet Jahylin McKee of J.McKee & Co. in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahylin McKee.

Jahylin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Upon graduating, I decided to decline a great job offer working in IT in California (a 9-5), and instead, I moved to NY with a dollar and a dream to pursue my goal of becoming a celebrity publicist. I faced a lot of challenges when I made that move. I had to figure out life in the big city and really, I just took a leap of faith. Getting adjusted and beginning at the bottom of the totem pole (literally, I was working on the street team for a radio station – a very entry-level position) was a lot after coming from a prestigious position (campus queen). I had to learn that the north was different than the south. Breaking into my field was just challenging overall. Now, I have my own public relations (PR) company, but it wasn’t easy getting the experience I needed to begin my own business.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! Reaching and defining what success looks like for me was putting my pride to the side. I slept on couches, went completely broke, lost sleep and made huge sacrifices. Nothing about this road is smooth but it’s definitely a road less traveled.

To be honest, with wifi, determination, and God it does not matter where you are. It does not matter how saturated the industry you are in, if God calls you to it, then it is for you honey!
