Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice And Denise Tunnell.
Hi Janice and Denise, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
DXP Media & Sports began long before we ever stepped onto a sideline. We started our creative journey in 2018 as photographers who were simply obsessed with storytelling — the kind that captures real people, real emotion, and real moments that matter. For years, we honed our craft through portraiture, events, and documentary-style projects, building a visual language centered on authenticity and connection.
In 2024, everything shifted.
What started as curiosity became a calling when we photographed our first sports event. The energy, the grit, the emotion, the way athletes carry entire stories in a single moment — it felt like the perfect intersection of everything we loved about visual storytelling. We realized quickly that sports weren’t just action; they were narrative. They were culture. They were community. And they deserved to be documented with intention.
From that point forward, DXP Media & Sports was born.
We stepped fully into the world of women’s basketball and volleyball, focusing on athlete-centered coverage that amplifies voices often overlooked. Our mission became clear: to create documentary-driven sports media that honors the athletes, elevates the leagues, and brings fans closer to the stories behind the game.
What began as two photographers with cameras in 2018 evolved into a dedicated sports media platform in 2024 — built on passion, purpose, and the belief that every athlete’s story deserves to be seen.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has, for the most part, been pretty smooth, but we have faced a few challenges. We started on the high school level and worked our way up to college and pro sports. It was challenging trying to shoot college and pro sports without working for a media outlet. We had to discover and learn that process before we could move forward. Once we started shooting women’s sports for a media outlet, we were on our way. I would also like to mention that before finding a media outlet to work for, we starting laying down the foundation for DXP Media and Sports, a division of DualXposure Photography.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
DXP Media & Sports is a documentary‑driven sports media brand specializing in authentic, athlete‑centered storytelling. We cover women’s basketball and volleyball with a focus on capturing the emotion, culture, and humanity behind the game — not just the action on the court.
Our work blends photography, videography, editorial writing, and creative direction to build full narratives around athletes, teams, and events. We shoot everything from game coverage and behind‑the‑scenes moments to long‑form features, interviews, and multimedia stories that highlight the people behind the jerseys.
We started as photographers in 2018, and when we stepped into sports in 2024, everything clicked. Sports gave us the perfect intersection of movement, emotion, and storytelling. Since then, we’ve dedicated ourselves to elevating women’s sports through intentional coverage that feels cinematic, honest, and deeply human.
What we specialize in…..
*Documentary‑style sports photography & videography
*Athlete‑centered storytelling and editorial features
*Women’s basketball and volleyball coverage
*Creative direction for media, branding, and digital platforms
*Event coverage with a focus on narrative, not just highlights
What we’re most proud of…..
We’re proud of building a platform that genuinely amplifies athletes — especially in spaces where coverage is limited or overlooked. Every time an athlete tells us, “You captured me exactly how I felt,” or “This made me feel seen,” it reminds us why we do this.
We’re also proud of the trust we’ve built with teams, leagues, and players. Our work isn’t transactional — it’s relational. We show up consistently, we care about the stories, and we create with intention.
What sets us apart ….
DXP stands out because we approach sports like documentary filmmakers, not just photographers. We’re not chasing the biggest play — we’re chasing the story.
Our coverage is:
Cinematic — clean and modern with magazine‑style visuals, Narrative‑driven with purpose, Emotion‑forward where we highlight the grit, joy, pressure, and humanity of athletes, and Community‑focused where we invest in the culture around women’s sports, not just the games.
Most importantly, we create from a place of respect. We believe athletes deserve storytelling that honors their work, their identity, and their journey — and that belief guides everything we produce.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Nashville is an entertainment town in every sense, and that’s exactly what we love about it. The culture, the creativity, the music — it all creates an energy that feels alive and inspiring. And for us, the basketball community is a huge part of that. We come to Nashville to shoot women’s pro basketball in the Athletes Unlimited league, and next year we’ll also be covering the Upshot Pro Women’s Basketball League. The city has embraced women’s sports in a way that feels genuine and exciting, and being part of that growth means a lot to us.
As for what we like least — honestly, nothing. Nashville has always welcomed us, supported our work, and given us a space to create. It’s a city we look forward to returning to every season.
