Meet Jay Stacs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Stacs.

Jay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
If I were to think of how I started and why I started working in the entertainment industry, I would have to point out, MikeWillMadeIt. Back in 2007 is when I met Mike Will. He stayed across the street from my best friend’s home at the time. I would use to just stop by his place to kick with him and learn how he processed things, musically. The way he produced a track in a matter of minutes was intriguing enough. I have always been interested in music, but Mike showed me that it was real. Real in the sense that, with the right aspiration, the achievement of success in the entertainment industry can happen. At that period in my life, I had bought myself an MPK midi controller to produce beats. I took into account what Mike Will had taught and expressed to me on how to make a dope beat and I just ran with it. So, yup, not sure if he knows it, but MikeWillMadeIt got me started in this industry. I took it further than to just start and produce beats. I went to school for audio production and graduated with my BA in Audio Production, which opened me up to so much more in the entertainment industry. Not only it taught me how to mix and master audio, but it also taught me how to professionally record and edit video and graphic content. I love entertainment and creating something from nothing, to tell a story, and wouldn’t give it up for the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If anyone says that there’s a smooth road to any goal, it has never worked for what they truly seek. The biggest struggle in the entertainment industry is getting noticed. You can have the best content in the world, but if you don’t get out and network and market yourself, it’s hard to achieve any success. My biggest struggle wasn’t meeting people and marketing myself. I actually pride myself on being a people person, which works out in my favor. My struggle was cash flow to support my career. Abiding by the laws, LOL, it wasn’t easy to produce the cash to get marketing materials, printed CDs, posters, online ads, etc. There were times where I had just enough money for some gas to get to my 9-5. I was also in school for Audio Production at the same time. Another struggle was sleep. I’ve been up 48 hours at times. I would go to my 9-5, go to class, then go to the studio I was working at and also did club promotions. Sleep was the hardest thing to find because I was grinding so hard.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I started Jay Stacs Productions as a multimedia entertainment company. Ranging from instrumental tracks to video editing to graphic design to audio mixing is what I specialize in. I have worked alongside a lot of local up and coming creative minds, whether they live here in Atlanta or stay across the country. What I am most proud of is helping people achieve their dreams and being a part of that process to tell their story. The thing that sets me apart from others is that I am literally the “Jack of all trades.” I can produce rap, graphic design, audio & video editing, live production and audio mixing. The best part is that I provide the convenience of not having to sit with the client face to face and still being able to deliver a quality product that is expected.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My best quality is that I can get along and have a conversation with literally anybody. No matter the race or where a person is from, I’m known for being liked by my upbeat personality and optimism. I feel this is the most important, as you can’t be successful without the support of strangers.
