Meet Jenna of StyledJen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna of StyledJen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jenna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I work in a very technical field and have a background in Engineering and have always longed for a creative outlet. The idea for my blog came to life in July of 2017 after returning from my wedding and honeymoon. I had spent over a year planning my wedding, which definitely satisfied my creative side. After all was said and done with the wedding, I felt like I was in a complete rut with not loving my full time job. I spent a lot of time deciding what I could possibly to fuel that passion for planning, learning and creating. Looking back, a blog seems like the obvious answer, but it took me a while to realize that. I launched my StyledJen Instagram page at the end of July to market my blog and worked on my website until November when it was ready to launch. I am still a new blogger and learning a ton, but I am loving the process beyond words! I am working on growing, learning and working with brands to support their causes. I believe my technical and process oriented background in Engineering has helped my blog in a very unique way and I can’t wait to see what is in store for the second half of 2018!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some struggles! First of all, there is a big learning curve for me with all aspects of blogging – building a website, marketing on social media, photography, photo editing, working with brands, posing for photos, styling outfits etc. All of those factors were “firsts” for me when I started the blog so it took a lot of time to ramp up and learn each of those facets. I am still learning a ton each day and am excited to continue down that path! Another struggle for me was feeling embarrassed about what I was doing. In the beginning I was so fearful of anyone finding out about my blog. None of my friends or family members knew about it for months! The beginning period when I was figuring it all out was very vulnerable for me because I like to succeed and I knew as a newcomer I had a long ways to go in terms of success.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about StyledJen – what should we know?
StyledJen is a lifestyle blog with a focus on fashion! More specifically, I love to focus on wardrobe optimization and bargains! I believe in great staples that make up 80% of the wardrobe and fun items for the other 20%. I share sale finds with my readers so they can get the best deals and provide inspiration each season for how to dress. I am most proud of my realistic bargain finds. It seems a lot of fashion bloggers dress beautifully, but the price tag that comes with it is enormous. I also see a lot of people dressing for an imagined life instead of real life. I love to inspire cute casual outfits that actually work for every day life.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Success is a dynamic metric that I think should be reevaluated regularly and adjusted. I am constantly going back to my goals spreadsheet and changing my goals. Right now, I think having the motivation and drive is important to my success in growing my brand. Since I am still in the beginning phase, it is super important to me to drive growth to my page and generate new projects with various brands.
