Meet JeQuavius Pope of Kuhway in College Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to JeQuavius Pope.

JeQuavius, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been making art for about as long as I can remember. However, during my college years is when I began to visualize a sustainable career as an artist. So around 2014 is when I began to take it more seriously: entering art shows, practicing every day, and actively gaining clients for freelance work.

Fast forward to today, I have graduated with a degree in animation, teaching art, and currently working with clients on several projects.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t bee the smoothest road to get to the point where I am today. My biggest problem is really me getting out of my own way. Even though I am nowhere near where I want to be, I have come along way from where I started, so I like to use that as motivation.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kuhway – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a multi-medium artist. Which means I work with different forms of art. I paint using acrylic, animate using computer software, sculpt with clay, etc. I would say I specialize in illustration at the moment.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans include putting together art shows for myself and my creative peers. Getting my creative ideas off the canvas to other forms of art. I plan on doing a couple of murals this year, Working with clothes and shoes, and creating an animated series.
