Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica White.
Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve had many different walks of life but the common denominator has always been cameras. From studying production in college to shooting nightlife photos, and eventually finding myself on a film set, I’ve always loved the rush that production brings. I’m currently a Producer at Moxie and absolutely love the opportunities it gives me not only for myself but what they allow me to do for others. Throughout my career, I’ve always had great mentors and people I could learn from and grow my passion in the industry. College gave me the film basics but working in it is a whole different story. Several connections lead me to work on a nonprofit dance film piece for my friends Alyson Quigley and Margaret Morrissey at North Druid Hills Dance. It was a fun project to work on and the finished piece was a work of art. From that set came the open door that would lead me to so much more. The director of the dance piece was Steve Colby of Pogo Pictures and his words were “you have hustle, call me when you want to quit your day job.”
The right moment presented itself and I was working on larger commercial sets before I knew it. I freelanced under great department heads and tried my hand at both Camera and Art departments. Right as that career was taking its next steps, I got a call from a friend that said Moxie is looking to expand their production team and that I’d be a great fit. I have experience being a one-woman show from producing and coordinating to shooting and editing. Walking through the doors of Moxie for my interview I saw all the signs that pointed to yes. The culture here is very welcoming of all ideas and I can grow with a team but also as an individual. I was excited to see that the creative team has so many women, very different from the freelance film world that was mostly men. I found myself in a position where I was able to give the same opportunities I was given by my previous mentors to other people. I wanted to give the female filmmakers in Atlanta that chance. My first production of the year was a creative concept created by women and the crew was 75% female. Since then I’ve made it a point to have at least a 50/50 crew of men and women on every single one of my productions. We make great content for different clients and I’m happy that the work is coming from people that are as passionate as I am.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sometimes the projects that come down the pipeline are a little out there and I think to myself “how am I going to pull this one off.” It challenges me to look beyond my boundaries and find the solutions to make it happen. Sometimes in the first days of production, something will always happen and it’s up to me to put the fire out. It’s a high-stress situation and others look at me because if the Producer is freaking out then you know its a big deal. So I poker face and find the solution and keep the team calm. We are a little family here and we go through lengths to make it work. The end result is always more amazing than we thought and its pretty cool seeing your work live on social or broadcast.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I started at Moxie, I hit the ground running and wanted to prove to my team that I could bring new things in and shake things up. Six months into being here, two of the projects I worked on won awards at the Regional Addys and one won gold at National Addys. Gift Rap was my favorite project which was our holiday card and we did a collaboration with TPain to create a one of a kind wrapping paper that actually raps with his original rendition of Jingle Bells. It was wild! Since then I’ve worked on major campaigns that all required large set builds and full crews. It was great to not only see where my teachings have brought me but also to work with friends who trust me. My boss Wendy, (who is one amazing badass) has recognized my efforts and its enlightening to work under someone with so much experience to share.
