Meet Jordan Maxey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Maxey.

Jordan Maxey

Hi Jordan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started Village Apothecary out of my kitchen during the height of 2020. I was on the hunt for clean burning candles that didn’t have the dangerous ingredients that I was seeing in big box stores. I also love design, so I wanted to try my hand at creating a beautiful and accessible product. Thankfully, we have grown and adored the community that we have created!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. 2020-now has been intense regarding supply chain issues and the price of raw ingredients increasing due to inflation. I always wanted to produce luxury-grade candles that didn’t have to be $50 each like other brands. So we’re working hard to keep costs down for our customers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think people appreciate our candles because they are intentionally made. Everything about the product has been either designed by me or super-talented friend, Kayla. They are all hand-poured, labeled, and packaged by me. I am also super intentional with the stores that we are in. I love building that community with other business owners.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would love readers to know that we are black-owned and woman-owned! This is a super important part of who we are. I would also love to shoutout Woodlawn, AL, where my studio is.

Pricing:

  • 4 oz. candle: $15
  • 9 oz. candle: $29
