Meet Keith Day, Jr. of Emergence 2 Serve Image Society at Clark Atlanta University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Day, Jr.

Keith, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I came in as a freshman at Clark Atlanta University as a Theatre Arts major, fulfilling my passion for the arts, but I also wanted to dive into fashion. I joined Emergence 2 Serve Image Society, an Atlanta University Center organization whose mission is to promote individuality, pride in personal appearance and self-esteem within oneself and others. When joining this organization, I knew I wanted to use my time in college to not only elevate my self but the organization as well. As years went by I assisted backstage of our fashion shows and worked my way up the Executive Board, now serving my second year as President. Now I have the honor of producing and creative directing my second and final Clark Atlanta University Homecoming Fashion Show, premiering October 18, 2019.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a student and running an entire show can be a bit challenging at times. Having to communicate with dozens of people everyday and sit in meetings, rehearsals, etc. 24/7 all while still keeping up with class and homework can be stressful. With that being said, I always keep in mind that being a student is my main priority and I must complete those task first, and doing what I love comes immediately after.

Please tell us about Emergence 2 Serve Image Society.
Emergence 2 Serve Image Society (E2S) was founded on the campus of Clark Atlanta University during the Spring semester of 2010. E2S is a collective of fashionable, fashion-oriented, fashion-savvy scholars, inspiring others to see the importance of image, style, beauty, health, and culture, and service. We use our platform to inspire and elevate the presence of Clark Atlanta University through fashion and community service.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is witnessing the birth of my younger brother, Peyton. I was thirteen years old when my brother came into this world and watching his birth was one of the most momentous occasions I’ve ever experienced. This was when I seen my mother at her strongest and what made me want to be even stronger for the both of them. My brother being brought into this world served as even more inspiration to succeed because now I’m only succeeding for myself, but for him as well.
