Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Lacy and Kiersten Williams.
Kelly and Kiersten, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started Make Beautiful in 2017 after seeing more need in the filmmaking market for less footprint and flexibly priced videos that didn’t lack in quality or in richness of story. We decided we wanted to veer away from the creative agency model with a lot of moving parts and higher costs for clients so that we could work with a multitude of businesses/people/visions, etc.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing in passion is smooth or easy, as anyone knows, haha. It requires a lot of hard work, failing, getting back up, and trying again. Learning to say “I’m sorry” to each other as business partners, fail together, dream big and fall short, or have a vision that didn’t quite work are all really humbling moments that have made us better humans and filmmakers.
Make Beautiful – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a low footprint (not a lot of carts of gear, but the basic essentials of high-quality pieces of equipment), high-quality storytelling boutique film company that’s purpose to beautifully capture and create stories for our clients. We are a film company without a lot of bells and whistles and works to scale based on our client’s budget. We never want anyone to think they can’t have their story told because they don’t have enough money. We do a lot of work for non-profits and small businesses, but we don’t have a set standard for what type of client we like to work with. Simply, we are proud of the work we make because it’s fun, vibrant and full of life. Kelly is a wizard visionary and anything he touches becomes magic. Together, we have great balance and vision for our clients.
What were you like growing up?
Kiersten: observant, loved to help, danced at any moment’s notice, loved making mud pies, and always had an interest in the human connection i.e., who we are, how we get there, and how we can love each other well on the way.
Kelly: had a camera in his hand since middle school, shy, curious but was always creatively expressing his experience in life.
