Meet Kendall Bessent of Kengotrich Photography in Stone Mountain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Bessent.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kendall. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got my start in photography at a young age. I’ve always enjoyed the process of taking pictures and editing them in cool ways, so as a kid I was really into Tumblr. My mom picked up on this and brought me my first camera for my 16th birthday. My camera sat for about three months before I even started using it and over the course of a year I learned it. After that, I started shooting, however, I wasn’t taking it seriously. It wasn’t until about last year is when I really fell in love with photography and capturing moments. What fascinates me about photography is that I am able to tell a story and convey a message that transcends language barriers. Being a kid that was quiet and really creative, I found that photography was a way for me to express my creativity, convey my perception of the world and showcase the culture of my people.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! being such a young and self-taught photographer I’ve had many hurdles from doubt to the lack of resources. For example, I started out editing pictures on my Mac in the photos app. However, today, my struggle is a bit different. Today, I struggle with things such as overworking myself, trying to make time to balance everything in my life and constantly being a perfectionist.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kengotrich Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Kengotrich Photography is not only photography, but it’s also an experience. It’s a showcase of my people, and it tells a story of what I’ve been influenced by in my life. I use my photography to show my perception of the world around me. I guess you could say I’m known for capturing the beauty of my culture. So far, I’m most proud of being able to work and connect with so many amazing people. I’m proud that my work is appreciated by my peers and people that I don’t even know. I’m proud that I am able to do something that I love every single day.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is working on bigger scales and bringing my work to the mainstream. I’d like to work with brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Puma. However, I’d also like to shoot for different magazines, Complex being one of my favorites. This year I’m planning a gallery for my 20th birthday and I plan on connecting with some really cool people there.
