Meet Kendra Garrett of KG Marketing Solutions CO in Mableton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Garrett.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kendra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While growing up in New Orleans, I faced a lot of struggles that included social acceptance, self-acceptance and just finding out exactly what I wanted to do with my life. During my senior year of high school, I figured the best thing I could do for myself was to join the Navy. The Navy allowed me to live and travel the world; I went to 10 Countries and lived in seven different states. The Navy is what catapulted me into my current role as a business owner and CEO of KG Marketing Solutions CO, LLC. Being a Navy Counselor, my sole focus is on helping my Sailors and Superiors with making the best decision for their future and their overall growth. This role allowed me to begin putting together significant events and ceremonies. I also helped my fellow sailors withtheir hobbies and businesses they created outside of the navy. These skills allowed me to start managing events and companies through KG Marketing Solutions, LLC. I have always been a stickler for reading, so I read a lot of self-help books; books about providing business services, marketing, social media, etc. After I realized how much I enjoyed this and how great it felt to present a client with their finished product, I went to school to complete my degree. I completed courses to become certified in Career Coaching, and then everything took off from there. I have had the pleasure of working with several authors, setting up and coordinating festivals, assisting fashion designers and the list goes on. My primary clients have been small business coordination and startups.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing has been easy, nor without battle, but with every challenge comes growth and strength. Challenges and struggles are what made me the person I am today. My biggest challenge has been confidence. Don’t get me wrong: I am a very confident person, and I am great at what I do. But sometimes having confidence in myself can create challenges because I find myself being my worst critic. This pushes me to work harder so I can be sure to produce my best. Also, there are so many people in this industry with so many great ideas, and there are also people that do not support your success. It’s very competitive, but you have to remain committed to giving it your all whether others celebrate you or not.

Another one of my biggest challenges has always been finding the right balance. Because I am a business owner and a full-time Sailor in the US Navy, balancing clients and my full-time naval career can be demanding at times, but overall I’m getting better. One of the go-to things that I have found to be helpful is that of utilizing planners. I mean I don’t use just one or two, but several planners at a time. Oh yeah, and I have two phones. My planners and my phones help me to not only separate my Navy life and my KG Marketing Solutions CO, LLC life as a business owner, but it helps keep everything organized especially for my clients. I am currently working on a planner of my own for individuals that are in the military as well as one for business owners. I’ve learned regular planners won’t work for people who live a busy life, so creating something unique, something that reflects who we are as creatives is a must. I want everyone to be sure to be on the lookout! I have to remember God would not have given me the gifts, the ideas, the clients and the resources if he didn’t think I was special enough to have them.  So, since He has given them to me, then I should do everything in my power to use them. Struggles can be hard, but giving up is even harder.

KG Marketing Solutions CO – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company, KG Marketing Solutions, is just that: marketing solutions. We specialize in social media management and marketing, which includes assistance with managing your social media profiles imagery and a few other marketing tricks. Creative brand development is the branding and rebranding of business images. We have taken this to another level by doing media placement, assisting with press releases and image consulting. We have helped authors with everything from the conceptualizing phase to set up and design to the production of their books and journals to the finish line which is connecting them with independent publishing companies. I would say that I am most proud of my ability to overcome obstacles and create a lasting product and brand for my clients to enjoy. My drive and endurance is what sets me apart from others. There is no limit to the research and time I am willing to apply to ensure my customer receives a product they can be proud of.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success by how many lives I touch and how many people I reach. Success is a process and it doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes years of hard work, dedication, and a lot of tears. I personally define success by how many lives you touch and how many people you reach. The wider my reach, the more I feel successful. I further define my success by how many people I can bless with my gift. When I see a smile on my client’s face or an article written about someone whose brand I helped build, that, for me, is where I feel successful.
