Meet Kevin Griffin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Griffin.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
As cliché as it sounds, I grew up around music. My mom used to tell me that when I was a baby, my father would have to play the piano for me to stop crying. The house I grew up in was very musical. My father is a producer and musician, and my mom sings as well. My parents would always make us do studio sessions for them and play around with music all day. Growing up in church, I was forced to sing being that my grandparents were the pastors. We didn’t really have a choice. In middle and high school, I played the Cello and was always top of the class. Being in the orchestra for seven years, it helped me to develop a different ear for music. It has saved me from a lot, which is why I heavily appreciate the impact it has on my life.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is music. I sing, produce, DJ, and have a clothing line called Teflon. Teflon was inspired by my grandfather Bishop Thomas Alvin Body Sr. When he was battling with dementia, my family began to call him Teflon Tom. Teflon means to be able to withstand anything that comes your way and that I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me. The message I want to deliver through my music and clothing line is to believe in yourself. If you invest in yourself and your brand, you can do anything you put your mind to.

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
It can be a little difficult trying to establish yourself as an artist, especially in the city of Atlanta. There are so many opportunities, but you really have to prove to the city that you are hardworking and serious about your craft. Releasing good content is an important part about being an artist as well. To promote myself better, I will be attending different new artists’ showcases and things of that matter.
