Meet Kiara Jones of Kissez By Ki Whitening & Beauty Artistry in College park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Jones.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kiara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well to first start off, I’ve always had a big city girl heart! I was born in Port Arthur, TX but raised in Chattanooga, TN. About four years ago, I moved to Atlanta, GA, young-minded and couldn’t find what I really wanted to do. Until the day I stepped foot in Cumberland mall and went to the colorU cosmetics booth. There’s was a lady name EJ who was one of the MUAs on duty at the time. She did a full face on me.

As a child, I was Girl who suffered from acne and scars and I wanted to feel beautiful! So after she finished, she turned the mirror around and the girl I saw in the mirror was a totally different girl (in a beautiful way) I was ecstatic! I couldn’t believe she made me look sooooo beautiful!!! So I bought every piece of makeup, down to the brushes! She sold me! I later found her on IG and dm her and asked her if she teach me a few techniques (by this time eyebrows was the thing) so she told me a few techniques to do and then she said: “YouTube is going to be your best friend” so I began to YouTube and practicing on myself and every time I would go home (chatt) my friends and people around me would ask who did your makeup and I would say “me” of course! So then my friends started asking me to do theirs and of course I did it.

Then one day, one of my friend’s mom Charlette Davis told me I could make this a hobby and get paid to do it! She was the very first person to ever believe in me! I doubted it at first, but she kept pushing me. Then a while later, I started posting more and more of my work on my social media platforms and then the clients started coming! Then my kid’s father Terrence West took me more seriously and said, let’s write you out a plan, build you a logo. So he did my first logo and we came up with the name Kissez By Ki. I wanted something attached to my name but something catchy! Despite the negative Nancy’s and naysayers i NEVER Gave up, I kept pushing, praying asking God to show me my gift, my talent, and he did just that! Now I’m here six years, later on, go mode! My name is out there, my brand is out there and I have now so much under my belt from doing shows to hosting my own classes to selling my own brand! I finally took my entrepreneurship role more seriously and enrolled myself into esthetician school. I was hungry for my business. Coming from a family full of entrepreneurs, I knew I was destined to be one as well! I was born to two entrepreneurs, so I knew then it was in me and time to take my talent to a new level and I did just that graduated in 2018 from Chattanooga College.

I would also like to give a huge shout out to my parents! if it wasn’t for the love, support, encouragement, long talks,! and guidance that i needed to be able to go to work and school to pursue my dreams day in and day out, none of this would have been possible without them, and i just want to thank them from the bottom of my heart!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If I wasn’t a professional, I would say “HELL NO” shouting it! I struggled with turmoil, negative Nancy’s, shadiness you name it and just all around no support from what I thought at the time was no support. I had no one to look up to in makeup or just have my back when I needed someone. I always thought being an entrepreneur especially in the beauty industry, that it was all peaches and cream cause the few people I did look up to didn’t show that side so I couldn’t believe I was going through it. So I did what I knew best was to turn to God for prayer and kept my faith in him strong. I knew whatever I did as long as I kept my faith strong in him, I could do whatever I wanted to and God was going to always see me through! No matter what, I still had a vision, a vision I seen beyond myself and with that came a definite plan, and I knew I had to put my plan into action.

Kissez By Ki Artistry is about enhancing the beauty of God’s creation. I specialize in natural & glam makeup, teeth whitening & lashes. I’m known for my unique natural makeup application. I’m also known as the queen of brows! I can slay a brow with my eyes closed! It’s my own special technique. I am most proud of how far I’ve come from being a single, lost mother to finding my gift and using it to enhance others, to inspire, and educate those who I come in contact with! These are the moments I live for and is so very proud! No shade to any other artist, but you really have to love what you do in this field. You got to be passionate about it. You have to have patience, and just know everyone is not meant to be YOUR client. I personally like to make my clients feel relaxed and comfortable and knowing they can trust me with the foundations to enhance their beautifulness. It’s definitely a quality of service over money. I like for each and every client that sits in my chair know I’m trustworthy and I’m here for them! My client’s reaction is my favorite part. It’s priceless! Makes my heart smile!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Absolutely NOTHING. I truly believe that God takes you through certain steps and situations to prepare you for the bigger picture. My journey wasn’t easy, but I’m thankful for every curveball that was thrown my way because not only did they make me a better entrepreneur but a better person as a whole, and for that, I’m forever grateful for my trials and tribulations.
