Meet Lane Bickett of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lane Bickett.

Lane, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Lane Bickett and I am a photographer based out of Atlanta, GA. My story with photography started when I was 6 years old with my great grandmother. She had an original polaroid camera and I remember being so fascinated by the camera and its ability capture photos and instantly print them out after being taken. I was so attracted to the camera technicalities and the photo it would output. Fast forward to when I was 13 years old and I got my first iPhone and began to fall in love with taking photos myself. I remember my mom printing and framing a photo I took of a baseball in a field of grass. As a kid, it was so cool to see a photo I took printed, framed, and hung up in my childhood bedroom. As I went through middle school, high school, and eventually college, I completely put my passion in photography in the background. I mainly focused on sports, social life, travel, academics, and outdoor camps. Once I graduated from Clemson University and earned a degree in Packaging Engineering, I moved to Atlanta, GA which is the first major city I have ever lived in. This big of a change brought me a new pace of living, new connections and opportunities, and gave me time to focus back into my passions. Music and live shows have always been an interests of mine since I was 12 as well as photography. I only lived in Atlanta for one month before breaking my collarbone which forced me to go back home for 6 weeks. I was unable to do my laundry, take off my shirt, or cook for myself. During this down time and physical impairment, I was able to truly slow down and sit with myself to then discover what I really wanted to do and achieve once I was healthy again. Once I moved back to Atlanta, a city with a vibrant music scene, I one day put two and two together and began to photograph musical artists and their live shows. I instantly fell in love with photographing live events and it brought such a new dynamic to my love for music. Being able to create art and photos that represents the artists music has given me joy and a career I am deeply passionate about. I started this career a year and a half ago and it has lead me to many opportunities and connections which I am deeply grateful for. My work has been published in articles, online publications. magazines, and has been featured in several art galleries in the Atlanta area. I believe my hard work, driven mindset, genuine, and friendly demeanor have given me the opportunities I have received. It is so important to treat everyone with respect and to be kind to everyone you meet. Love and kindess goes a long way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part is has been smooth, but there for sure have been struggles along the way. Camera equipment is expensive, time management has been important, working late and long hours, and being rejected for gigs have been the biggest struggles along the road. Starting out, I have had to work two jobs to stay a float as a creative in a capitalist society. The biggest issue for me is time management between working two jobs. I work all day and then photograph in the evenings and nights. And then I have to make time to edit all the photos I take while also balancing social life, fitness, and well being. I am very fortunate to have supportive friends and family who continuously encourage me to chase and turn my dreams into reality.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer who specializes, but not limited to, music and concert photography. I enjoy creating photos for musical artists from their concerts that encapsulates the feeling of their music through visual media. I shoot both digitally and on film. Along with music photography, I love doing photoshoots for magazine covers, single / album cover art, fashion shoots, weddings, and fashion studio shoots. I also enjoy travelling and spending time in nature, so I love to create photos on film from my travels in nature, cities, and the people I meet along the way. Experiencing new cultures and places are one of my favorite past times, so I love to create photos of the places I visit through my perspective. Connecting with others, sharing stores, and perspectives inspires and drives my work the most. I am most proud of the impact I leave others with. I believe the most important thing is spreading love and helping others reach their fullest potential, I am also proud of myself and self determination I have put into myself and my art to have the opportunities I continue to create.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I want to give credit to all my teachers and mentors throughout my education, my friends who are so supportive and loving and inspire me to be my most authentic self. I also would like to thank all the fellow photographers / creatives I have made friends with over the past two years who’s work and love inspire me to keep creating and pushing froward. Art and creation is needed now more than ever. I am grateful for all the support my friends, family, and colleagues have shown me over the past several years. Without them, I would not be who I am today.
