Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Lorenzin.
Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My business partner and I started our sister salon-Akasa-in 2014. We saw the need for a beautiful, gender-neutral space for established stylists to work independently. Our vision of what was an ideal work environment in our industry simply did not exist, so we decided to bring it to life. Two years later, we found that we needed room to grow. That’s when we decided to open Commoner Salon. While my business partner works and operates Akasa, I do the same over at Commoner. We are a great team and fully fulfilled.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say that we’ve had a pretty smooth road. Normal challenges during the build-out phase were most definitely present, such as making deadlines happen, stylists depending on specific timelines as to when their new workplace would be ready, dealing with city of Atlanta/permitting, etc. Once up and running, the day-to-day has been surprisingly and satisfyingly smooth. That’s the beauty in having a great business partner and many years of experience in the industry.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Commoner Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a full-time booth rental salon. Allowing established stylists to work independently and providing them with an appealing work environment that is locationally ideal is what we do. We understand the needs of our stylists because we ourselves are stylists. Location and environment are very important.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Lucky for us, we are irreplaceable! Trends are changing constantly!
